Last Minute Halloween Treats

Happy Halloween! My office is having a little Halloween party today, and I am pretty excited to eat all the homemade snacks! Sadly, I did not have enough time to make a sweet treat (I cheated and opted for store bought cookies.), but if I did have time there were two dishes that were on my radar- Witches' Hats and Candy Corn Pretzel Hugs. I am thinking about making the Candy Corn Pretzel Hugs in between handing out candy to trick or treaters and watching It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown tonight. I love candy corn and this would be the perfect combo of sweet and salty. For more fun Halloween treats, check out my Pinterest board. I hope your day is full of sweets and BOOze!

High End Halloween

One of my favorite Halloween posts are the ones that inspire you to pull items you may already have from your closet to put together a costume. Initially, I was going to create my own version, similar to what I had done last year and the year before, but then I decided to change it up a bit. I thought it might be more fun to incorporate higher end pieces.

Dorothy in DVF
Dress: DVF // Bag: Rattan (Similar) // Shoes: Steve Madden (Similar)

Barb the Babe
Blouse: DVF (Similar) // Denim: ModCloth // Glasses: H&M // Loafers: DSW

Bookworm Belle
Top: Free People (Similar) // Skirt:  Modcloth (Similar) // Shoes: Manolo Blahnik // Clutch: Kate Spade // Cape: Hooded Cape

My favorite costume might be Barb's. (I am watching Stranger Things Season 2 as I type this up.) But I also really love the third look. It's Belle's library outfit from Beauty and the Beast. Aside from the yellow gown, this look has always been on of my favorites.

My Secret to Great Skincare

Over the years I have had my fair share of skin problems. Recently, I began to notice a very clear difference between having great skin and not so great skin. The difference was water intake. Yep, that's it. For me, lack of water is all it takes to make my skin look and feel awful. I downloaded a very helpful app that reminds me to drink water. Each time I drink a glass, I log it and water a cute little virtual plant. It has been so beneficial to helping to reach my 8 glasses of water and keeping my body and skin happy. If you need further proof on the power of water, check out this article that pinpoints just how important water is for every aspect of your health. If you have been having a tough time with your skin, try drinking more water before anything else. I tried eliminating milk and dairy, but that did not work. I cut down on sugar, and while I felt good, my skin was no different. When I paid more attention to how much water I was or wasn't drinking, my skin was clear and glowing. Not a fan of plain old water, add a lemon slice or even sliced strawberries for a little extra flavor. You can even create your own little mixes, such as cucumber and strawberry or lemon and lime.

Product Review: Maple Holistics Silk18 Natural Hair Conditioner

Maple Holistics Silk18 Natural Hair Conditioner
When it comes to beauty products, I am much more likely to spend money on makeup than I am on hair and skin care items. My skincare and hair routine is very basic. I use a micellar water everyday, no moisturizer (unless totally necessary), and generic shampoo and conditioner. I am slowly working on changing my ways to improve and renew my hair and skin.

My first order of business is to improve my hair care. My hair has always been very fine. I get split ends so easily and I dye my hair with boxed dyes. Hey, I'm on a budget. I have been using a new conditioner for about two weeks now and my hair is very happy. The Maple Holistics Silk18 Natural Hair Conditioner has transformed my dull, dry hair into shiny, silky locks. This conditioner is full of 18 essential oils and silk amino acids, hence it's name. It is also sulfate free and smells amazing! It has a subtle and sweet maple scent. Maple Holistics takes it one step further and donates $1 to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence for every bottle of Silk18 sold. A company with a cause- I can always get behind that.

Visions of Fall

This week has seen the most change in color. I was driving through Akron Park on my way home last night, when hues of orange, yellow, and red caught my eye. Up until recently, the leaves did not want to let go of their greenery. I think this will be the weekend where I go on my annual photograph binge through Chestnut Ridge Park. The views are always breathtaking. Here, I captured a few images of fall throughout Western New York just before the leaves take their final bow.

Hoop Girl

When it comes to earrings, I love the idea of them, but rarely ever put any on. I buy beautiful dangly earrings and simple studs, but they always seem to be overlooked by rings or necklaces. That has changed lately with some new additions to my jewelry collection. Hoops have made their way onto my vanity and into my ears. It started with some unique hoops from Target. A silver and gold pair that each featured an extra piece added to the hoop for an art deco feel. The gold pair even give me a bit of an Egyptian vibe (see below). The pair with small turquoise beads are also from Target. I picked them up in the clearance section. They are from the Baublebar collection for Target, SUGARFIX. My newest and favorite pair I just scooped up last week. They were a bit of a splurge, but I have already worn them quite a few times so they were definitely worth the twenty plus dollars. I love the simple look with a delicate twist detail. I bought them at my friend's Tony Walker party and I am so glad I did. They go with every outfit, and when they peak out from behind my hair, they are a fun, expected accessory for my style.

Metallic Madness

Is it just me or are trends coming out of the woodwork this season?! I feel like everyday there is a new trend. First it was stars, then velvet, and now metallics are everywhere! I broke down this trend into three categories. While I am hopping on the metallic trend, these are the items I would add to my wardrobe for touches of metallic. I want to avoid looking like a disco ball, and instead aim for a fun pop of shiny material for a bit of glam.

I love the idea of a shimmery top paired with distressed denim and simple pointy slides.

A shiny bootie would be the focal point of my outfit. An all black look with shiny silver booties is outfit goals.

A metallic bag would be the perfect accessory for a night out.

Velvet Dreams

Velvet is having a major moment. Everything from booties to dresses to home decor is coming up velvet. I have two velvet items in my closet. A tan spaghetti strap shift dress I picked up a year or two ago. Can you say 90s style? I also have a black velvet shirt with a lace detail along the bottom. To add to my collection, I have been lusting after these Sam Edelman booties in maroon. A sleep quilted style crossbody bag is also on my list. This one from Target is cute! Madewell has been so tempting lately. I want every item I see! This mustard button-down cami would be so adorable with denim, a long beige sweater, and knee high boots. Basically, anything velvet is closet goals for this fall.

Weekend Plans: October 7 & 8

Happy Friday! I am pretty excited about this weekend. It's finally starting to feel like fall and fall activities are calling my name.

Saturday, October 7th

I found out about the 'Go Fly A Kite Festival' at Chestnut Ridge Park on Saturday from 12-3 pm. I do not have a kite, but I would be happy to sit in the grass and watch kites dancing in the sky. Fingers crossed it doesn't rain.

After a quick stop to the kite festival, I am SO excited to visit The Great Pumpkin Farm! I cannot wait to pick out some adorable pumpkins, get lost in the corn maze and , of course, take lots of photos.

Sunday, October 8th

It's Sunday, so you guessed it... I'll be watching the Buffalo Bills! Can you believe they are number one in their division!? Let's Go Buffalo!

Hope you have a great weekend!

September Favorites

September was the month of new beauty items! My favorite purchase has to be the Too Faced Sweetie Pie Bronzer. It smells like peaches and adds the perfect touch of summer glow look. I have been adding a bit to my cheeks everyday. It quickly became a staple in my makeup bag. Another item I have been using daily is the Dream Big Eyeshadow Palette by Tarte. The colors are so beautiful and perfect for fall. The third and final beauty product I loved for September was the Smashbox Contour Palette. This was a Sephora Wow Sale item and I am so glad I picked it up. I had never contoured before. It was always a little intimidating for me, but this palette makes it so easy and quick.

For non-beauty items, I have two products I have been reaching for. One is the best dark spot corrector I have ever used and the other is a body lotion with a twist. On Your Mark Blemish Mark Fader from Formula 10.0.6 is $7.99 and hands down the best dark spot corrector EVER! I have tried everything from $100 correctors to DIYs and this stuff works. I have seen spots fade before my eyes with just one to two applications per day. This is a must try if you have acne scars or dark marks. I promise you'll love it. Keeping with the skin theme, I started using a product that keeps my skin super moisturized and goes on in a flash. The Jergens Wet Skin  Moisturizer is a game changer. As soon as I step out of the shower, I slather this on and go.  Applying lotion after a shower was always a laborious task. I would dry off, then apply lotion, then wait for it to sink it, and then I could get dressed. Now it's just a part of my shower routine and makes my skin silky smooth.

Music of the Month: September 2017

I have been slacking a bit when it comes to keeping up with new music. I have been on a Audible kick, listening to books on my commute to work. It's been a nice change and I already finished two books in about a week and a half! Here are the songs I have been seeking out during September.

Galway Girl- Ed Sheeran

... Ready for It?- Taylor Swift

Nights with You- MO
