End of Summer Corn Salad

Over the weekend my dad cooked an incredible steak dinner with a fresh tossed salad and grilled corn on the cob. We ended up having way too much corn left over and I didn't want it to go to waste. I started searching online for some corn salad recipes. I found a few great ones, but none of them really spoke to me. So I created my own version. I didn't know exactly how it would turn out, but I was very pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

This summer corn salad is so good on it's own and as a side dish. I also think it would be so delicious on top of chicken or steak with sour cream. Think Chipotle burrito bowl. Here is what you will need to create this dish.

  • 6 corn on the cob or one bag of frozen corn
  • 1 red pepper diced
  • 1 orange pepper diced
  • 1/2 red onion diced
  • Handful of cherry tomatoes cut in halves or quarters
  • 1 can of garbanzo beans
  • 3 Tablespoons of Italian dressing
Just chop and mix all the ingredients together. This should take about 20 minutes to prepare and feed about 6 to 8 people.

Weekend Plans: August 26 & 27

This weekend is going to be pretty laid back. I only have one event planned, the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts. I love walking around and taking in all the local talent we have here in Buffalo.

For more information on the festival of arts, click here.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Art Appreciation: Shark Girl

First Fridays at Albright Knox Art Gallery is one of my favorite date night activities. At the beginning of this month, my guy and I went to check out the new exhibits. I was all in for the Shark Girl: Never Quite There exhibition and it did not disappoint. There were dozens of pieces from Casey Riordan Millard's collection from sketches to lifesized installations. This exhibition is up until October 1st so there is still plenty of time to check it out if you are in the Buffalo area or are thinking of visiting. Here are some of my favorite pieces from the collection.

One Coat: Four Outfits

Have I mentioned I am ready for fall? I checked the weather for the next 10 days and it looks like the temperature won't reach 80 degrees. Today, it is 70 and sunny. I am currently wearing a Canadian tuxedo with Ked's and I am loving it! In honor of the cooler weather, I thought I would put together some outfits I have been day dreaming about. They all involve a beautiful suede moto jacket I picked up a few weeks ago. Most of the outfits are created with items I already have in my closet. Some of the items you may already have too!
Jacket (Similar)

Polka dots are having a moment. I'm not sure they ever really went away, but they are certainly popping up a lot lately. I love this navy blue dress. For a casual look, I would pair this with my Adidas All Stars and my red Gucci Soho Disco bag for a fun pop of color.

For a cooler day, you can't go wrong with denim and a cozy sweater. I love this pink one from Nordstrom. Embroidery is a trend that does not seem to be going anywhere and I am very okay with that. I grabbed these tapestry booties over a month ago and I am dying to style them. Finishing off this look is a cute bucket bag with a ring handle detail.

I already know where I want to wear this outfit... date night. The oversized cable knit sweater with the delicate floral skirt is such a sweet combination. Paired with over the knee boots and an oversized bag (to sneak in snacks to the movies), I cannot wait to throw this outfit together.

This last outfit would be fun for a night out or even a day at the office. The wide leg pants would be so comfy and cute. You can never go wrong with a classic white button up. Loafers and a simple black bag complete this look.

Good Better Best: Face Wipes

There are two things I look forward to at the end of a long day: taking of my bra (amiright, ladies!) and washing my face. And well, sinking into my comfy bed, but who doesn't love that. There is always one product I HAVE to use when taking off my makeup- face wipes. I find they are the easiest way to remove the makeup and buildup of the day. I have been using the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes for quite a few years. They worked well enough, so I never strayed. Then I heard about two other towelettes and curiosity got the best of me so, of course, I had to see if they were worth the hype. For me, they were not. Here are my thoughts:

Good- Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes. When I first used these wipes, I was satisfied. My skin felt refreshed and clean, and I liked that I was using a product that was made with simple ingredients. It wasn't until I used the Garnier Micellar Water that I realized just how simple the wipes were. So much makeup came off on the cotton ball, I felt like the wipes didn't do a thing! Needless to say, I have not used them since. Keep in mind, I do not cake on the makeup, so it's not like there was too much product on my face to begin with so that made the results very shocking.

Better- Trader Joe's Micellar Cleanser & Makeup Remover. I read about these facial wipes in a Buzzfeed article, so obviously I had to give them a shot. The first time I used them, they made my skin tingle alittle bit, which was very odd. I rinsed with water and was fine, but it was strange. I had never experienced that with a facial wipe before. The second use, there was no tingling feeling, so I'm not sure if it was a weird reaction to something I was wearing the first time. Unfortunately, just like with the Simple wipes, the cotton ball told it all. Lots of left over residue. I do understand these wipes won't take everything off, but I do think they should take at least 80% of the makeup off, right?

Best- Neutrogena Cleansing Towelettes. So that brings me back to my number one. I am sorry I ever strayed and I (probably) won't again. These wipes are old faithful. My skin is happiest with these wipes and they get the job done.

I'd love to know, which facial wipes are your old faithful?

Moon Magic

Happy Solar Eclipse! While I am not in the line of totality, I will be watching every breathtaking moment on the NASA channel. I have always thought of the moon as a magical and romantic symbol. The same can be said of the sun, but there is something special about the moon. I was so inspired by the moon, especially on a historical day such as today, I wanted to gather together a few items in honor of the moon. I especially love the blue mismatched earrings and moon phase art. That item may or may not be in my cart on Etsy. For links to everything shown, check out my Polyvore page.

Fall Wardrobe Wishlist

Maybe it's because I recently bought some fall scented candles, but I have had fall on the brain lately. Mostly I have been planning out my wardrobe. There are a few pieces I would like to invest in this year.

1 // 2 // 3
For outerwear, I have been loving bomber jackets. This one from H&M is at the top of my list. I love the navy blue base with the pink floral for a pop of color. A biker jacket in a burgundy color peaked my interest when I saw a faux-suede one at Old Navy. For some reason, I cannot stop thinking about blazers. I just want a simple style in a neutral color.

Flare jeans are coming a small come back and I am feeling so nostalgic. In high school, I would wear bell bottom jeans everyday. I was probably one of the last people to switch to skinny jeans because I loved my bell bottoms so much. Trying to find the perfect button front denim skirt has been a challenger for me. Mainly because I can be so picky. The same goes for embroidered jeans. Most of the embroidered jeans I have come across, the denim is so thin and seems poorly made. This may become a DIY project with a great pair of Levi's.

I have been on the hunt for the red, white and blue Nike Cortez. They are sold out EVERYWHERE. Aside from the sneaker classics, I love the new shoes from the Who What Wear Collection at Target. The yellow is so happy and the blue embroidery looks gorgeous with that bright satin. For a more casual look, quilted slip ons that would match anything are a must have for me this fall.

Kimono Kick

Ever since I saw Emily Ratajkowski wearing this kimono (which is actually a dress), I have had my eye on them. I ended up purchasing the orange kimono pictured below on sale. I grabbed it from Target for just $13! I love it and am so excited to pair it with jeans, a black tank top and my lace up espadrilles. The kimono is a perfect piece to transition from summer to fall. It is light and the movement is so beautiful when you walk. I also want to pick up a pink one, like the on below from Anthro. How do you feel about the kimono trend? Will you be rocking this look?

Weekend Plans: August 4, 5 & 6

This will be the first installment of a new series, Weekend Plans. During the summer, there is so much to do and I'd love to share my plans to give you some ideas to consider.

Friday, August 4th
Today is going to be jammed packed. I'm going to visit the Albright Knox Art Gallery for First Fridays. The first friday of every month is hosted by M&T Bank and admission is free for the whole day. I am very excited to check out the Shark Girl exhibit.

Tonight, weather permitting, my friend invited me to a Bills Training Camp. I am so excited! I have never been.

Saturday, August 5th
I don't have any plans for Saturday right now. I do need to finish up a few assignments for my master's course so I will spend a few hours on that.

Sunday, August 6th
In the morning, I am heading to Rochester with my mom, aunt and cousin to go to the Park Ave Summer Fest. There will be over 350 artists, craftspeople, exhibitors, food, and music. This will be my first time attending, but I am really looking forward to it.

As you know, I am a shark fin-actic. This includes everything from Shark Week to terrible Syfy movies. You know the ones I'm referring to... Sharknado 5 premieres Sunday at 8pm. I will be recording this in case I miss a minute of the action!

Taste Testing Lays Do Us A Flavor

I don't know about you, but I love trying new foods. My experiential taste buds really blossomed when I was living in New York City. It is where I discovered my love of Indian food and empanadas. I also love trying new flavors of foods I already enjoy, such as M&Ms and Lay's chips. The new flavors of the Lay's contest were just released and I was so excited to try them all! I picked up one of each last night and went to town as soon as I got back to my apartment. Here are my thoughts:

Crispy Taco: At first glance, these chips could pass for BBQ. They are the same in color, but as soon as you open the bag your scenes are flooded with taco seasoning. In the first bite, I could taste a complete taco from the seasoned beef to the lettuce. I kid you not. I don't know how they do it!?

Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese: These are my favorite of the three flavors. First, it's kettle cooked so that's a win right off the bat. Second, they are just delicious. Unlike the Crispy Taco, I cannot distinguish the taste of the bagel and cream cheese as well, but the flavor is awesome. I ate half the bag already.

Fried Green Tomato: Sadly, I have nothing nice to say about this flavor. The taste is not good. I love real fried green tomatoes so I thought these would be my favorite. To be honest, they were a bit of a disappointment.

I would love to know if you tried anything of these fun flavors? Did you like them?

July 2017 Favorites

Happy August! Another month has come and gone, so you know what that means... monthly favorites time! This month is a bit of everything from beauty to jewelry and everything in between. Let's start with the biggest item. I am obsessed with this denim pom pom beauty bag. I saw it on a random shelf in Marshalls. Someone must have been thinking about buying it and ditched it in the home goods section. I am so glad they did because I love this! The inside is nylon, so it's very easy to wipe down. It also has a middle divider so it's easy to find what I'm looking for. The size is perfect for my bigger beauty items such as my hair brush, travel sized dry shampoo, and micellar water.
I also toss in some beauty brushes from time to time. My new favorite powder brush is a sleek white brush from Wet n Wild with a pink tint on the ends. I grabbed it from Target for three bucks. Another beauty item I have been using on a regular basis is from a Sephora Play box I received a few months ago. This Algenist REVEAL Concentrated Luminizing Drops in Pearl is the best highlighter I have come across. A little goes a long way with this product. I add the smallest drop to both my cheek bones and the bridge of my nose for a dewy, radiant look.
I try to always have either a hair tie or clip on me. I picked up these adorable tribal patterned Goody ribbons from Target. They are the only hair ties I use these. They are gentle on my thin hair and add a little something extra the black elastic lack.
The same day I picked up the hair ribbons, I also grabbed the pizza and taco card/pins. How cute are they?! I bought two of each to send to friends, but I might keep one for myself! I have been meaning to check the Target Dollar Spot again for other designs.
Lastly, a jewelry favorite from this past month is rather new, but I have worn it almost everyday since picking it up. It is a grey blue beaded necklace. But, it's not just a necklace, it could also be a bracelet or a choker if you double it up. I picked this up on sale from Sunshine & Bluebirds during their big summer sale. It was originally over $20 and I got it for $5! I loved it so much, I went back and grabbed another one in white. Now I can wear one with practically any outfit! I love a piece that goes with everything.
