Gift Guide: What to Buy Your Boss

While trying to figure out what to give my boss this holiday, it occurred to me that this would make a great gift guide. Finding the right gift for your boss can definitely be tricky. Of course, a lot of the decision will come down to the type of work relationship you have. Maybe you can get them a gag gift knowing your boss would appreciate a good laugh. Or maybe you want to keep it a bit more professional. Here are a few ideas to help you find the perfect gift.

For your boss who loves a good red wine.

For your boss who is a boss in more ways than one.

For your boss with a sweet tooth.

For your boss who knows how to laugh it off.

For your boss who appreciates art and snail mail.

Gift Guide: For Him

In my experience, men are always a little challenging to shop for. It's easy to get in a rut and keep buying them nice shirts or fun socks, and while I am sure they love it, most of the time those are items they buy for themselves already. I like to buy people things they wouldn't normally purchase for themselves. While a hat seems pretty standard, I am sure not too many guys would splurge on a cashmere hat. Yeah, razors are a necessity, but have them delivered to your mailbox! It's alike a nice little personal care gift each month and they will never run out of fresh blades.Check out  a few more items that the guy in your life might love:

For the outdoorsy guy.

For the beard enthusiast guy.

For the "Where'd I put my keys?" guy.

For the vinyl lover guy.

For the craft brewer guy.

French-Inspired Fashions

I have been very inspired by French fashion lately. I am drawn to the simplicity of the outfits.  The solid color blocking, berets, stripes and lots of scarves is what I love most. I have been on the hunt for simple, solid sweaters. With today's trends, it has actually been a challenge to find a plain sweater. Beret’s have been on my radar as well. I recently added an adorable velvet beret from Forever 21 to my wardrobe, and I plan to wear it with everything! There are some items that I already own to put together a French-inspired ensemble. I have a beautiful camel coat I purchased from H&M a few years ago. It is one of my favorite coats. I am excited to start wearing it again when the  cooler temps arrive. I also own black loafers and dozens of colorful scarves to adorn my neck and handbags. I find a majority of the scarves at used clothing clothes. I have found some true gems for just a few dollars. My next purchase will be a great pair of black denim. An all back look with my camel coat would be très chic. On the beauty side of French fashion, I have been buying every red lipstick I lay my eyes on. My newest lippie is MAC Russian Red. It is such a gorgeous bright red. I will be wearing that all through the holiday season.

Falling for You

Over the weekend, windy days left the trees bare.
Luckily, I was able to capture a bit of fall before it blew away.

All images were taken in Akron State Park.

Weekend Plans: November 10, 11 & 12

Happy Friday! Here's the agenda for this weekend...

Friday, October 10th

The wait is over! Listening to reputation on repeat.

The music continues into the night. I am going to see The Aces at The Tralf. Tickets are $1.07, how could I say no!?

Saturday, October 11th

Errands. Fun stuff. I have a few returns, and I'm sure I will find something to buy while at TJ Maxx.

Sunday, October 12th

The bills game is a Sunday staple. I am thinking of making Crock Pot Stroganoff and S'mores Cookies Bars for dessert. There's something about cooler temps that brings out my inner Julia Child.

Night at the Art Gallery

Last Friday, some friends and I got together for dinner and a night at the Albright Knox Art Gallery for Free Fridays. To our surprise upon arriving, we discovered we could preview the new exhibitions for a donation of our choice. For $5, we each got to experience and interact with the incredible pieces from the Out of Sight! Art of the Senses exhibition. I had such a great time, and I am thinking I may have to go back next month to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel it all again.

Book Review: The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur

an ode to the sun and her flowers

parts that make a whole
pain and growth
love and loss
words flow from your heart
to the page
to my heart
I touch the pages
when the words touch my heart
never knowing such pain
but feeling it weigh me down
lessons of love and life
tales of rising
rise to your feet
love yourself
forgive yourself
look to the sun
cherish the flowers

October Favorites

Happy November! It's my favorite month! Thanksgiving is only 19 days away and Christmas is getting closer. October was pretty great though. It brought cooler weather that was perfect for sweatshirts, beautiful words, a cult favorite, and a holy grail face mask.

New York Sweatshirt. I saw this sweatshirt on H&M's Instagram. It was styled with a plaid jacket and denim. It looked so cozy and cool, and I needed it. I wore it just about every day last month.

The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur. It is hard to put into words what this book meant to me and what it taught me. But, I am going to try. Look for a book review soon.

Stranger Things. Need I say more? I finished season 2 in two days and I am so sad it's over. I think I need to re-watch both seasons very soon!

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. This stuff is amazing! I have used it once so far and plan to pamper myself with it again this weekend. My skin instantly looked brighter and was so smooth. I may put all other masks to rest because this is the best one I have ever used.

Last Minute Halloween Treats

Happy Halloween! My office is having a little Halloween party today, and I am pretty excited to eat all the homemade snacks! Sadly, I did not have enough time to make a sweet treat (I cheated and opted for store bought cookies.), but if I did have time there were two dishes that were on my radar- Witches' Hats and Candy Corn Pretzel Hugs. I am thinking about making the Candy Corn Pretzel Hugs in between handing out candy to trick or treaters and watching It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown tonight. I love candy corn and this would be the perfect combo of sweet and salty. For more fun Halloween treats, check out my Pinterest board. I hope your day is full of sweets and BOOze!

High End Halloween

One of my favorite Halloween posts are the ones that inspire you to pull items you may already have from your closet to put together a costume. Initially, I was going to create my own version, similar to what I had done last year and the year before, but then I decided to change it up a bit. I thought it might be more fun to incorporate higher end pieces.

Dorothy in DVF
Dress: DVF // Bag: Rattan (Similar) // Shoes: Steve Madden (Similar)

Barb the Babe
Blouse: DVF (Similar) // Denim: ModCloth // Glasses: H&M // Loafers: DSW

Bookworm Belle
Top: Free People (Similar) // Skirt:  Modcloth (Similar) // Shoes: Manolo Blahnik // Clutch: Kate Spade // Cape: Hooded Cape

My favorite costume might be Barb's. (I am watching Stranger Things Season 2 as I type this up.) But I also really love the third look. It's Belle's library outfit from Beauty and the Beast. Aside from the yellow gown, this look has always been on of my favorites.

My Secret to Great Skincare

Over the years I have had my fair share of skin problems. Recently, I began to notice a very clear difference between having great skin and not so great skin. The difference was water intake. Yep, that's it. For me, lack of water is all it takes to make my skin look and feel awful. I downloaded a very helpful app that reminds me to drink water. Each time I drink a glass, I log it and water a cute little virtual plant. It has been so beneficial to helping to reach my 8 glasses of water and keeping my body and skin happy. If you need further proof on the power of water, check out this article that pinpoints just how important water is for every aspect of your health. If you have been having a tough time with your skin, try drinking more water before anything else. I tried eliminating milk and dairy, but that did not work. I cut down on sugar, and while I felt good, my skin was no different. When I paid more attention to how much water I was or wasn't drinking, my skin was clear and glowing. Not a fan of plain old water, add a lemon slice or even sliced strawberries for a little extra flavor. You can even create your own little mixes, such as cucumber and strawberry or lemon and lime.

Product Review: Maple Holistics Silk18 Natural Hair Conditioner

Maple Holistics Silk18 Natural Hair Conditioner
When it comes to beauty products, I am much more likely to spend money on makeup than I am on hair and skin care items. My skincare and hair routine is very basic. I use a micellar water everyday, no moisturizer (unless totally necessary), and generic shampoo and conditioner. I am slowly working on changing my ways to improve and renew my hair and skin.

My first order of business is to improve my hair care. My hair has always been very fine. I get split ends so easily and I dye my hair with boxed dyes. Hey, I'm on a budget. I have been using a new conditioner for about two weeks now and my hair is very happy. The Maple Holistics Silk18 Natural Hair Conditioner has transformed my dull, dry hair into shiny, silky locks. This conditioner is full of 18 essential oils and silk amino acids, hence it's name. It is also sulfate free and smells amazing! It has a subtle and sweet maple scent. Maple Holistics takes it one step further and donates $1 to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence for every bottle of Silk18 sold. A company with a cause- I can always get behind that.

If you want to give this conditioner or any other Maple Holistics product a try, sign up for free samples

Visions of Fall

This week has seen the most change in color. I was driving through Akron Park on my way home last night, when hues of orange, yellow, and red caught my eye. Up until recently, the leaves did not want to let go of their greenery. I think this will be the weekend where I go on my annual photograph binge through Chestnut Ridge Park. The views are always breathtaking. Here, I captured a few images of fall throughout Western New York just before the leaves take their final bow.
