Apps I'm Loving

Audible
I have about a 30-40 minute commute to and from work each day. After a while the radio and Apple music just don't cut it, so I started listening to books. Aubile is an awesome app that offers a monthly subscription for $14.95. You receive one credit towards any book of your choice each month. So far I have listed to Bossypants by Tina Fey, Troublemaker by Leah Remini, and I Didn't Come Here to Make Friends by Courtney Robertson, who was on Ben Flajnik's season of The Bachelor. If you are a Bachelor fan, this book has a lot of details about the show and is actually not as stagged as you may think. I am currently listening to Brooklyn by Colm Toibin. Listening to books is so relaxing and allows me to catch up on books I have been wanting to read, but have just not made the time for. If you are looking for something new to pass the time while you drive, run or workout, I highly recommend Audible.

Digit
I learned about Digit through a Refinery29 article. I am terrible at budgeting and saving money. Money just burns a whole in my pocket! Digit is so easy and it;s a great way to start saving. I love checking my account and seeing how much I have saved each week. It is definitely getting me on track being more responsible and conscious about my spending.

Plant Nanny
To be honest, I only just heard about this app very recently, but it has been a big eye opener. The object of this app is to help you drink your required glasses of water per day. Fun fact, 8 glasses of water is the minimum recommendation. You should really drink a certain amount of water based on your weight and activity level. According to this app, I should be drinking 11 glasses a day! I already have a hard time drinking 8 glasses. For each glass of water you drink, you mark it in the app and water your plant. If you don't reach your goal, your plant dies. Full disclosure, I already killed my plant. Twice. I definitely have some work to do to get up to 11 glasses.

Next Episode
I've been hearing about this app on YouTube a lot lately. I do not have many shows I watch, but there are so many goods shows coming out that I don't want to forget to check out. Has anyone seen The Catch? It looks so good! I need to catch up on the first episode. (No pun intended.) It's an easy way to keep track of my shows and I especially like turning to this app when I am planning out my week in my Erin Condren.

What's Your Sign?

I have been thinking a lot about my astrological sign lately. I think part of it may be because birthday was a few weeks ago, and also because of the horoscope my mom read to me days before my birthday. It read,

"The coming weeks will be one of the best times ever-- EVER!--for figuring out what exactly it is you desire. Not just what your ego yearns for. Not just what your body longs for. I'm talking about the whole shebang. You now have the power to home in on and identify what your ego, your body, your heart, and your soul want more than anything else in this life."

Whoa. Reading it today still gives me the same chills I felt the first time I heard it. This is deep stuff.
Now, I know what some of you might be thinking, "It's just a random blurb and you can't take it to heart." And I agree... at times. I do not life my life around what my horoscope reads, but there have been countless times when my horoscope is right on target. Mostly, I think horoscopes are fun and I do enjoy reading mine.
What I do absolutely believe in are the traits that surround one's astrological sign. I can tell you that all the traits, good and bad, explain me to perfection. I am very sympathetic and overly emotional. I am creative and sensitive. I am also very stubborn and incredibly indecisive. I am a Pisces through and through. I was reading little blurbs from various sites and I read that Pisces tend to wear their heart on their sleeve. I froze for a moment and looked down to my arm where I have had a heart tattoo for about 8 years. I got that tattoo without knowing this information. Coincidence? Sure. But it's a pretty big coincidence!
I would love to know your sign! Do you find your sign captures a bit of your personality?

Letters to Loves Ones

First of all, how adorable are these Summer Harvest stamps! I love when the stamps are just as sweet as whats inside the envelope. I have a little bin full of thank you cards, greeting cards, and cards I have seen at crafts stores and such that I pick up once in a while. I stopped in Michael's the other day and checked out their dollar section. They has so many cards sets to choose from ranging from summer ice cream treats to glam dress and sunglasses. As you can see, I picked up a chic Hey Gorgeous set and an ice cream set for $1.50 each and I had a coupon! Each set comes with 6 cards with an envelope. I love that the envelopes are not your standard white, but instead are bright yellows and greens. I already have a few people in mind to send ice cream cards. While I text with my friends often, nothing says I'm thinking about you more than a handwritten note. I try to send out cards for the major holiday such as Christmas and birthdays, but sometimes a just because card is a necessity.

Polaroid

This weekend I was finally able to play around with the Fuji Instax Mini my brother gifted me for my birthday. I took a few test pictures and discovered a few tricks to the Fuji Instax. The first being, you do not need a lot of light to take a picture. There is a flash on the camera and if there is too much light in photograph get washed out (see picture in the bottom right). I am used to trying to have as much light as possible to get a good shot, so this will be an adjustment. I am so excited to use this camera more and more for instant memories. I might even add some pictures to my planner to mark special events.

Regal

Versace

Alexander McQueen

It has been a while since I saw an editorial that really moved me. The moment I laid eyes on the cover of Harper's Bazaar, my jaw hit the floor. Jennifer Aniston looks incredible in these photos. I love the simplicity of the first picture; a black dress with sexy cutouts and a stunning pastel watercolor backdrop. As for the second photograph... I am not sure I can properly form a sentence. This picture evokes feelings of confidence, power, regalness, elegance, strength, beauty... the list goes on. Bravo, Harper's Bazaar. Thank you for these phenomenal photos.

Beauty Review: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

I was at Sephora a few weeks ago standing in the checkout lane trying to resist all the beauty products and then I saw it. A trial size of Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I have been wanting to try it out for a while now. My friend Katie swears by this mascara and I have heard great things. After using it a few times, here are my thoughts:
Overall, I do like this product. I think the technique will take some time just because I am not used to such a big brush. If you have tried this mascara, I would love to know your thoughts!

Unboxing: March Birchbox

Another month, another Birchbox.
I am pretty excited about this month's samples, so let's get right to it!

Benefit the POREfessional; Instant Wipeout Pore Cleansing Mask. Say that ten times fast. I can get rather oily skin so I thought this would be a good product. I am not a fan. The mask smells heavily of rubbing alcohol and really dried out my skin after use. The liquid on the mask was so strong it also really irritated my eyes. I would much rather use a Biore nose strip than go through that again.

Benefit the POREfessional: Matte Rescue Invisible-Finish Mattifying Gel. I have used a product similar to this and I liked it. Hopefully it is better than the mask. Regardless, I will be sure to give this a go.

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo. I have used this product before and I do really like it. It smells good and gets the job done, but nothing beats my fav dry shampoo, Klorane.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Brightening Illuminator. I don't often use a highlighter, but I have been noticing a beauty trick that seems pretty popular these days: Mixing your highlighter and foundation in one! The full-size of this product is a pen-like applicator so that might not work for this beauty trick, but I am looking forward to trying this out on my next night out.

Smashbox Photo Op Eyeshadow Trio. I received this trio in Filter. The colors are really pretty, but just not colors I use. I tend to go more neutral with creams and golds.

Not Soap, Radio Body Wash. I have used this brand before and I really like. The smells are very strong without being overwhelming. I like to use this for my morning shower, it really wakes up my scenes and I feel more alert and ready for the day afterwards. Strange, but true.

Weekly Spread: March 21-27

It's Easter week! I have been patiently waiting to use this year's Pantone colors in my planner and I love how this week turned out! I cannot get over how beautiful Rose Quartz and Serenity are by themselves, not to mention how well they compliment each other. I don't have a very busy week, but I am dog sitting until next Tuesday. Aside from that, I am looking forward to spending time with family this Sunday. I hope you have a great week!

Movie Review: How To Be Single

Rating: 4/5 Stars
Genre: RomCom

Last week, my girl friend and I saw How To Be Single. I love Rebel Wilson and Leslie Mann, but I am not a huge fan of Dakota Johnson so I wasn't sure if I would like the movie all that much with her as the lead. I expected the movie to be funny, but mostly in a cliche way. I was pleasantly surprised by how much to really enjoyed the film. It was clever and relatable without being over the top. Although there was a small chunk of the movie, I could have done without. (No spoilers, but if you see the movie, I am referring to the character David. Let me know your thoughts.) I thought everyone in the movie was cast quite well, and by the end of the movie, I was warming up to Dakota. I was especially loving the costume design for her character. There was this red coat I feel in love with! Now that I think of it, Dakota Johnson's character, Alice, wore quite a bit of red in the movie. The romper she's wearing in the poster is another favorite.

Unlike most RomCom's this movie did not focus on a male and female love story, but more of a love story with one's self. You know the old saying, "You can't be happy in a relationship until you are happy by yourself..." Or something like that. The song "Love Myself" by Hailee Steinfeld was the closing song for this movie and sums up the plot pretty well.
If you are looking for a lighthearted movie to make you laugh, this is a great pick. I would definitely watch this flick again. If you have seen it, I would love to know your thoughts!

Milestones

This post marks my 500th blog entry! I am in awe! I started this blog in 2009 as an outlet for my thoughts and feelings on my day to day life. Over the past 7 years, I have gone astray, but my love for fashion, beauty, and writing has always brought me back to this blog. To celebrate this milestone, I wanted to take a look back at 5 of my favorite posts from over the years.

1. A Sweet Escape
I wrote this post in the fall of 2011. I had only written a conbined 40 posts in 2009 and 2010. Most of them lacked pictures and were short blurbs about friendship and little things that inspired me that day. In 2011, I really amped up my posts. I tried to make sure to document events and outings. Fall is my favorite month and it was my first time apple picking which made for a great post. I had so much fun and was so happy with the pictures my friend and I had taken.

2. 100 Followers Giveaway
This post was and is so monumental for me. I was in complete shock that over 100 people wanted to follow my little blog. It meant (and still means) so much to me. One hundred may not seem like a lot, but for me it's incredible!

3. Enchanted Forest
If I could take all outfit pictures at Chestnut Ridge I would. This park is so beautiful and I feel so lucky to live so close. My friend Sam took these photos and he was so great about getting the shots. Posts were few and far between in 2013. I moved to NYC that year and was so busy with work and school. In 2014, I didn't post once.

4. Pantone Color of the Year
This is a more recent post, but I just love the colors. I had so much fun creating this image. My imagery has definitely improved over the years. I used to be very adamant about structure and clean lines, but I have tried to get more and more creative with imagery and photographs.

5. Holiday Wish List
Speaking of stepping up the creativity levels, this post is by far my favorite in terms of style and design, I worked so hard to get this tree just right. I love putting together wish lists and gift guides so I had a blast working on this.

I am so excited to continue writing and coming up with fun and creative images and posts. Thank you so much for visiting my little space on the interweb!

Gingham Galore

There is something about gingham that always draws me in. I adore plaid and gingham isn't far off, so maybe that's where the love stems from. I recently picked up this top and ever since have been seeing gingham everywhere. I complied a few more pieces I would love to add to my closet.

Beauty Review: Cupcakes & Cashmere Polish x Formula X

I have been a long time follower of Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere. From her style to beauty tips to tasty treats, Emily touches on everything. Each morning, I check my emails, my Instagram and Cupcakes and Cashmere like clock work. She has become a part of my daily routine. She always has fun new ideas, and while her recipes are always mouth watering, it's her outfits I love the most. Well, those and anything she posts about her adorable baby girl, Sloan. Needless to say, I adore Emily, her brand and her sweet family.
Emily has created a clothing line, collaborated with Coach and Estee Lauder, but when I saw her three limited edition nail polishes with Formula X, I was typing Sephora into Google before my brain could register what was going on. I picked up all three colors because I just could not choose!
I have been wearing the Haute Sauce, a perfect red, for a week now and am not quite ready to transition into softer colors for spring. I also wore the Peach Tea for a few days. Of the three polishes, Haute Sauce and Latte Run (taupe) are my favorites. When I first put Haute Sauce on, I was very pleased at how smooth it went on. Peach Tea is a beautiful color as well, but was a bit streaky. I only put on two coats, so three might be the way to go. I have yet to try out the Latte Run, but I plan on painting on my nails in that color this weekend so I will keep you updated!
Hope you have a great Hump Day!

Twenty-Seven

So, it's here. I am 27. Last week, those two numbers sounded too old. Mostly because, how can I already be 27?! I swear I was just 23. But, I have made peace with 27. I have decided to embrace it. After all, age is just a number, you are only as old as you feel, etc. Which, as cliche as they are, those says are so true. I am 27 and I am excited! I have an incredible family who I can always count on, a rock solid group of friends who is there for me through everything, a job that I love, and a many adventures that await! Here's to twenty-seven-!

Weekly Spread: March 14th-20th (Birthday Week)

I am in love with this spread! I recently discovered MiriMeBelle on Etsy and I cannot get enough of her designs. This kit screamed my name as soon as I saw it. I had been searching for the perfect birthday week kit and this could not get any better. The pastels look so beautiful together and I love the confetti on the full and half boxes! This kit is almost too pretty to write on. For this week, I have a few birthday plans, such as dinner with my family and a movie day with friends with weekend. The idea of 27 is starting to grow on me! I hope everyone has a great Monday!

Cold Shoulder

Classic White // Striped // Boho

Last spring the off the shoulder trend started, but it shows no signs of going anywhere. I think this style is such a subtle, sexy touch to any outfit. I especially love this style top with jeans. I picked up the classic look in black from Express the other night. I plan to wear it out tonight with skinny jeans, lace up flats, and a choker for my birthday dinner with friends. I am not sure if I am more excited about the dinner plans or the outfit. In full disclosure, I also purchased the striped top from Zara earlier this week. I cannot wait for warm spring days so I can wear this pretty much everyday!

Round Them Up

I saw a circle bag come down the runway during fashion week and I swooned. I was scouring the web moments later to find a circle bag for myself. I purchased this simple white bag from Forever 21. I have already worn it a few times and I just adore it. The shape is unlike anything I own. After I bought this bag, other circle purses started popping up left and right. I rounded up six circle bags you should add to your collection stat!

Mornings with Monet

On Sunday morning, my friend and I met up for coffee before heading over to Albright Knox to view the Impressionist exhibit. The exhibit is entitled Monet and the Impressionist Revolution, and it features works of art from artists Claude Monet,  Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Eugène Boudin, Gustave Caillebotte , Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Berthe Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir, and Sisley, just to name a few. There were also pieces by post-Impressionist masters such as Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Georges Seurat, and Vincent van Gogh. The collection was beautiful. There were many works from Monet I have never seen before. My favorite was Les Glacons (The Ice Floes).
Aside from the exhibit, the Albright Knox Art Gallery has an incredible permanent collection. Many of the photos below show those works. It was such a great way to spend the morning. One thing I missed about New York City was all the amazing museums, but Buffalo has a pretty wonderful collection and I hear they are hoping to expand. I am looking forward to visiting the gallery more often and exploring future exhibits.

Birthday Wish List

My birthday is in one week! I am going to be 27 years old. I cannot explain it, but 27 sounds infinitely older than 26. But, I do have a good feeling about this year despite my feelings of getting older.
I am also have so many feelings about my little wish list for this year. I have been wanting a Fujifilm Instax for years and this is the year I will fulfill that dream. (Okay, that was a bit dramatic, but you get the gist.) I love greeting cards and Rifle Paper is one of my favorite brands for beautiful cards. They will be perfect to send out little notes and thank you's. All of my perfumes are almost out so it just might be time to invest in a new scent. I tested Stella out in Anthro a few months back and I cannot stop thinking about it. Lastly, I love turquoise so when I saw the Arrows of Friendship bracelet on the Alex and Ani Instagram, I was smitten.

And the timing to plan with this spread could not be more perfect as the weather is supposed to be warm and beautiful for a majority of this week. Unboxing: February Birchbox

The February Birchbox unboxing is coming to you a bit late because I needed a replacement box. My first box arrived with a hair serum that leaked everywhere! I emailed Birchbox to tell them about the mess and a new box was shipped out the next day! I am pretty impressed with my samples for February. They are all very substantial.

For February, I received:

Terax Hair Care Original Crema. This is a conditioner that helps combat frizz and dryness. Two things my hair definitely needs assistant with.

Tocca Perfume in Emelia. I have yet to smell this perfume, but the description is very enticing. It states, "Equal parts zesty and bohemian, the refreshing blend offers fruity layers of clementine, fig and coconut water, backed by warm florals like magnolia and geranium." Yes, please.

Fuji Green Tea Body Butter. Made with green tea, this body butter hydrates skin for up to 24 hours! With the harsh cold weather we've been having lately this lotion will come to the rescue.

Arrow Boost Color Enhancing Lip Balm. I have been using this since I received it. It is so hydrating and brings out the natural color of my lips. The color becomes a soft pink and offers a healthy glisten without being over the top.

Exfoliating Honey Peel Mask. This honey mask not only revives dull skin, but also helps with wrinkles. It's never too early to worry about the wrinkles!

Water Wonders

This past weekend my best friend MJ paid a visit. It was her first time in Buffalo, and she described her trip perfectly in just a few words: an experience. We ate at all the best spots in the area from Chef's to Panos to Spot Coffee on Elmwood, skied at Kissing Bridge, and went to see Niagara Falls. While she was unsure how she felt about Buffalo (she kept referring to it as The Frontier, which is not totally off), she loved all of her experiences. The drive to Glenwood was beautiful with snow covered trees and hills. The food she devoured was delicious. But, the best part of the trip was visiting the Falls. I have lived in Buffalo my whole life (minus the three years I spent in NYC) and I often forget how majestic the Falls are, and, more importantly, that they are one of the seven natural wonders of the world. That in itself is pretty remarkable. I live 20 minutes away from one of the seven natural wonders of the world. I take that for granted. The weather was sunny and so warm on Sunday. It was the perfect day to visit. Here are a few pictures I took of the Falls. I cannot wait to go back when it gets warmer and enjoy their beauty again.

Beauty Review: Revlon Mascara

Last week, I picked up the new Revlon Ultimate All-In-One mascara. I love trying new mascaras. The drug store brands are pretty cheap so I don't mind trying new ones as they come out. I have my higher end go to (Benefit's Roller Lash), but I do like to try out other brands. I have been dying to also try Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. After testing out the new Revlon mascara, here are my thoughts:
While there are equal pros and cons to the Ultimate All-In-One mascara, the cons outweigh the pros. I cannot be walking around with flakes on my face. Sorry Revlon, but this time I wasn't impressed.
