Best Dressed: Oscars 2016

Last night's Oscars were everything I hoped they'd be. One actress resembled a Disney Princess, Cate Blanchett stunned as usual, and Leo finally won the Oscar he has been deserving for years.

Evil Eyes

Ever since I laid my eyes on this blue eye pin, I have been spotting the evil eye everywhere. The other day, I stopped in a Macy's that is closing (crazy, I know!), and picked up the Sam Edelman slip-ons shown above for $15! What a steal! With those two purchases under my belt, I wanted to see what other evil eye items I could find. Here are some of my tops picks:

Meaningful Jewels

Over the years I have purchased necklaces and bracelets and rings from various stores mainly for the purpose of costume jewelry. I have statement necklaces full of vibrant colors and chunky rings for a boho vibe. While they are beautiful, they do not hold any meaning. For a while I felt like I did not own any pieces that meant something. That was until I took a closer look.
Lately, I have been reaching for the same bracelet everyday. I also have pieces I cherish and keep in their original packaging, front and center on my dresser. It's funny, but I did not realize these pieces meant so much to me until I thought about the stories behind them. So, here are four pieces of jewelry that mean the world to me and stories they tell.

I received this charm bracelet during my last few weeks in New York City right after I graduated. It was given to my by my best friend, MJ, and her mother. I can still picture the restaurant we were in like it was yesterday. There is a New York charm, a feather, my initial, and beads in my birthstone color. It holds everything that is dear to me and I adore it. MJ and I lived together in NYC in the best apartment! I was huge, had exposed brick, and our living room was the focal point for eating, crafting and building all the furniture we ordered. I formed a great relationship with not only MJ, but her family, and I miss them all so much. Every time I wear this necklace I think of them.

This bracelet was given to me last Christmas by my cousin Betsy. She has great taste and always picks out the best gifts. I wear this every single day. While living in the city, Betsy and I became closer than ever and I miss our brunches and museum outings. For me, this bracelet signifying Betsy's grace and kindness, and our friendship that extends beyond just being family.

I have always loved turquoise. It all started when I was working on the ranch in Wyoming. I spent three summers there while I was in high school. Over the years, I have misplaced some of the rings I had purchased from jewelers in nearby towns, but each time I see turquoise, I am reminded of the ranch and that feeling of pure happiness from being surrounded by such beauty. I picked up this ring last month from a shop in the Las Vegas airport on my way home from a work trip, so it holds multiple meanings.

That brings me to the fourth piece of jewelry that I love- my first Tiffany's piece. I bought this necklace in Las Vegas on the morning of our last day of my first work trip. That trip was such a big part of my first grown up job. The trip was a total success. I learned so much about our vendors and the business. We worked all day and played well into the night. I won $110 during my first time playing Roulette. I took that money and bought this necklace. I cherish this piece. The memories of Las Vegas and the feelings of success and growth in a job that I love live within this necklace.

Put a Pin On It

A few weeks ago I was scrolling through Instagram when a cluster of lapel pins caught my eye. I was immediately drawn to the idea of scattering beautiful pins on my camel coat. I jumped online and found an incredible selection of pins on Etsy. Oh, Etsy how I love thee. I ordered three pins and already have my eye on quite a few more. I may have a pin problem!
I plan on adding these pins to my coat lapel and even to outfits, such as sweaters. In the summer, they would look great on a baseball cap or hat. I might even stick one (or two) on a purse! I'm excited to see where else I can incorporate pins in my styling.

Unboxing: February Ipsy

My February Ipsy arrived... So you know what time it is! Unboxing time! The glam bag for February is adorable. I love the envelope image for a subtle Valetnine's Day theme.  My samples for this month are pretty exciting. I have never tried any of these products and all these brands, except for OBX, are new to me. So, let's get into it!

1. Luxie Beauty Blending Brush. I am so excited to try this brush out. I was actually going to buy a blending brush until I opened by Ipsy bag. What a treat! The brush is so soft and will be perfect for seamlessly blending my favorite eye shadow palette by The Balm.

2. Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish. The name of this nail polish is too funny. It's called 'I'm Kind of a Big Deal.' The color is almost a Pepto-Bismol pink. I read a few reviews and some people said it was a bit light, so the polish may be opaque. I'm looking forward to testing it out. You can never have enough pink polishes.

3. OBX Vitamine B5 Weightless Oil Mist. I have never used a hair oil before, but I am not opposed to trying it out. My hair could definitely use some TLC for those dry and damaged strands. All I saw in the comments section was how healthy people's hair looked and felt. Sign me up!

4. BellaPierre Cosmetics Mineral Blush. I received the mineral blush in Desert Rose. The color seems like it may be a tad light for my skin tone, but the sheen will be nice. This could also work as a highlight for contouring.

5. Vintage Sparkling Lip Gloss in Pink Sequin. I tend to wear lip crayons and lipsticks instead of glosses just because I am not a fan of the tacky feeling most glosses leave. I also don't love sparkly lip products so this products might not be a winner for me, but I will certainly give it a go!

First Impressions: Maybelline Brow Drama

My brows have never been a major issue. I pluck them myself. I have only ever waxed them twice. They have a great shape and are just a dark as my hair, which is as close to black as brown can get. Of course, I went through my pencil thin brows that I diligently over plucked because that was the style in high school. But after my mom pleaded for me to stop, I eventually put the tweezers down to let my brows grow back.
Nowadays, I often receive compliments on my brows. I take pride in them and don't often do much more than pluck maybe once every two weeks. With that said, I love a filled in brow with clean edges and a strong shape. Think Lily Collins. I have yet to master that. I have little wispy hairs at the beginning of my brows that are really the only hairs that give me any issues. On a day to day basis, I don't tend to worry or even think about my brows. For dressier nights out, I do like to add some color to fill in the few gaps. For me, it's all about ease. When I heard Maybelline came out with a new brow pencil, I had to try it.
Over the weekend, I tested out the new Maybelline Brow Drama Eye Crayon in Deep Brown. The thicker pencil was not something I was used to. I have tried super thin brow pencils in the past. For me, those thin strokes seemed to be noticeable, if you can believe that.  In three light strokes, I had filled in my brows. I smudged where necessary to eliminate build up and was done. For a brow beginner and someone looking for something quick and easy, this product is great. If you want fine lines and precision, this might not be the brow pencil for you. Overall, the formula is silky smooth and very light. It lasted all night and never moved. I will certainly be using this product again.

Review: Blue Man Group

My boyfriend and I purchased last minute tickets to see the Blue Man group on Saturday. I have always wanted to see them and Brandon is a big fan. Tickets were pretty inexpensive, especially for buying them just three days before the show. We sat in the balcony of Shea's, a beautiful local theater that always holds the best performances in town, and the show was a blast! The lights, the music, the colors, and the Blue Men were spectacular. The show was interactive and quite funny. I laughed the duration of the show. Even from the balcony, we could see the men's expressions and emotions so clearly. They truly are so talented. They brought people from the audience on stage on tow different occasions. A darling older woman was brought up and that may have been my favorite skit from the show. That, and the drums with paint. The show encompassed everything from artistic expression to science. At one point we were on our feet dancing while confetti and giant beach balls were tossed around the audience. It was so much fun! After the show, we made our way to the main lobby where Blue Men were taking pictures with people and marking their forehead with a blue thumbprint. If you have never seem them and want to have a good time, I highly recommend going! They are touring throughout the U.S. until July, and also have permanent shows in a few major cities. Check it out!

Pictures were not allowed during the show, but for a sneak peak check out these images

DIY Valentine's Day Cards

I am no Picasso. But, I do enjoy creating homemade gifts. Making cards, in particular, has been an activity I have been doing since I could draw. My mom always encouraged us to make a card for family member's birthdays or special occasions. This year I decided to make a few cards to send to friends and loved ones. I hit up A.C. Moore and found adorable stickers, fun craft paper and this really cool clear plastic-like card stock with little pink hearts. Everything I picked up was on sale and I stumbled on a 3 page pack of decorative stickers for only one dollar! I used some pink washi tape from my collection to seal the envelopes and I think that adds such a nice touch. There were some instances were I liked the envelope decor more than the card itself! I did not go too crazy with designs, but after checking out Pinterest, I definitely want to step up my game next year! Visit my Pinterest for more homemade Valentine's Day card ideas.

Super Bowl Snacks

The Super Bowl is in two days! I am pretty excited about the game. I'm routing for you, Peyton! I love the Broncos and would love to see Peyton Manning win, and possibly retire on top. I am also eager to watch to see how my Super Bowl squares turn out! I am not a gambler, but this year I figured, Why not?! When I'm not cheering on my quarterback crush, I plan on eating. Enough said. My friends and I will be watching at their apartment where pizza and wings will be devoured, but in the meantime, Pinterest has been very helpful in planning what dips, desserts and deliciousness should also make an appearance. This Peanut Butter Dip is a strong contender. Check out my Super Bow Snack pins for more tasty ideas! Go Broncos!

February Reads

I have a terrible tendency to buy books, place them on the shelf and not read them. I was looking through my bookshelf recently and came across Go Set A Watchman that I picked up about two or three months ago. It's terrible, I know! For Christmas, I received a Barnes & Noble gift card and just had to buy Wildflower. I haven't even cracked the cover. This month I am determined to read these books and then start on the next set of forgotten reads. I would love to know if you have read either of these titles and what you thought. Happy reading!

Mini Mall Haul

About a week or so ago, I ventured to the mall with some friends. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, but, of course, ended up buying a few little things. I wanted to do a mini mall haul of the items I purchased.
Our first stop was Urban Outfitters, where I found an elephant ring dish and immediately fell in love. The colors and design caught my eye and it was in my hands moments later. The rings I got for a steal at H&M for one dollar! I have been wearing one of the midi rings ever since.
I receive Lush emails and heard about the Charity Pot. It is a luxurious hand cream and all proceeds go towards one of the many charities Lush partners with. A great product for a great cause.
I am so happy with all my little purchases. Sometimes you just need a little retail therapy and you don't even know it.
