Looking Back & Moving Forward

Can you believe January is almost over! One month down in the new year. The past few weeks, I have been reflecting back on 2015 with such fond memories. So much happened in just 12 short months.

The 2015 Best Nine collage that was formulated from my Instagram account really captured the highlights of the year for me. Each picture takes me back to that day and the people I shared it with. Sitting in Central Park with Z talking about our futures, walking past The Flatiron Building on my way to the Birchbox office, each copious amounts of spaghetti with MJ at Eataly... Graduating. That was my biggest accomplishment in 2015. I said goodbye to the city I love and lived in for three years. I moved back home and reconnected with friends I hadn't seen in a long time. I traveled to visit friends in cities I had never been to before. I started a new job that I truly enjoy. I am able to support myself. twenty fifteen was a year to remember. This year has already created some lasting memories as well. I went on my first work related trip to an expo in Las Vegas. I am headed on another work trip next month. Mj is coming into town next month for a ski weekend, and I'm planning a birthday getaway in March. There is so much to look forward too and so many happy memories to look back on. Cheers to a happy new year!

Apps That Save You Money

I love a good deal. Coupons are one of my favorite things and sifting through the Sunday paper filled with flyers and ads is a weekly ritual I look forward to. Today, finding deals and saving money is as easy as opening an app. I have been using three amazing apps to help save money and earn money with purchases.
Cartwheel
If you are a Target lover such as myself, you may have already heard of this app. It's exclusively for Target stores. Each week new deals are added to the app and you can save discounts to your Barcode. You can also scan items throughout the store to see if they are offering any discounts. When you get to the register, just have the cashier scan your Barcode and see the total drop. I love this app!

Ebates
I recently started using Ebates. I mostly signed up because I can earn cash back on Etsy purchases. Winning. It also works at online stores such as Old Navy, Sephora, and, of course, Target. You can also save the Ebates button to your browser so when you go to a website that works with Ebates, you can easily click and earn cash back, I have only used it for a month and already earned $10 in cash back. It may not seem like much, but any little bit helps.

Shopkick
Every once in a while, I like to check out the top apps in the App Store. That's how I discovered Shopkick. You can earn points towards a gift card to a variety of stores just by checking in to stores you shop in. You don't have to buy anything, you can just walk in. It works at just about every store you can imagine. Just walk in, check in, earn points and earn a gift card.

Fitness Fashions

For me, finding motivation to hit the gym has always been a challenge, but I have a theory. Just as we prep for a date night or a special occasion, we go out and find the perfect outfit. What if we did that for the gym. Instead of the typical black leggings or shorts with an over-sized tee, you can now have your pick of the liter when it comes to colors and design of work out gear.  Athleisure is still a hot trend right now. Designers such as Tory Burch and Rebecca Minkoff have even created lines to fulfill this expanding shift in fashion. Victoria's Secret has been creating stylish prints and colors for yoga pants for some time, and now their sports bras are getting more attention. I put together some pieces that are unique and fun.. From metallic duffle bags to clever yoga mats, these pieces are sure to help get you in the mindset to work out.

Favorite Instagram Accounts

Of all the social media platforms out there, Instagram is hands down my favorite. I think a lot of that has to do with my love of photography. Capturing that perfect moment, whether it be getting the layout just right or snapping a candid moment at just the right time. I have rounded up some of my favorite IG accounts that fall into perfect placement, candid captures and everything in between.

I recently discovered the Lost in History account. Each time I open my Instagram I find myself looking forward to seeing what they may have posted.

I want Sharon from The Pink Diary to decorate my house. I love the simplicity of her posts. And of course, I love all the white.

You can learn a lot about a person by the shoes he or she wears. You can learn a lot more by following this account.

Grace is so talented. Her sketches made with paint and real flowers always amaze me.

I have gathered quite a few great meal ideas from the Buzzfeed Tasty account. Each recipe is so simple, yet I would never think of it on my own.

Bedroom Decor

I am very picky about certain things. Bedding being near the top of the list. For the longest time, I have had a simple white comforter. There was a short period of time where a grey duvet cover was involved, but they are evil. The comforter was always clumped up and my bed never looked made even when it was. Needless to say, the duvet did not last long.
Over the weekend, I laid eyes on a beautiful quilt pictured on the front of the Target weekly ad. I was smitten. I thought about it for a few days, and on Monday I bit the bullet. My new comforter is arriving today! Well done, Target.
I was immediately drawn to the grey and white and the soft peach and pink flowers worked so well together. I said it once, I'll say it again, I am a floral girl. I love that the over-sized flowers that don't make the piece seem overly girly. The furniture in my room is white and I am looking forward to having pops of color to play with for wall decor. I already have a homemade piece that will match this quilt perfectly. I can't wait to go home and put my new quilt on my bed! You know you are #adulting, when you count down the minutes until a quilt arrives. But hey, I am okay with that.

Unboxing: January Ipsy

Last month, I decided to sign up for Ipsy. Again. I was an Ipsy subscriber for a few months last year, but I was wasn't a huge fan. I am, however, a big fan of sampling new beauty products. Although, I will always love Birchbox, I must say Ipsy sends good sized samples, if not mostly full-sized samples. This month I was pleasantly surprised, for the most part.

1. Blinkie Eyeshadow in Tangerine Light. I am not a fan of this product. The color looks like rust and while it is highly pigmented when you dab your finger in it, the product does not come off when you go to apply it your lid.

2. OFRA Brow Pencil. This pencil goes on so smooth. I usually leave brows out of my regular makeup routine, but I may have to start using this pencil regularly.

3. the balm Mr. Write (Now) in Jack B. Bronze. I love this color eyeliner! I would never have thought to use a bronze/gold for an eye liner color. I don't often wear eye liner to work, but this might be my new go-to work look for something subtle.

4. Jelly Pong Pong Fairy Lashes. I have yet to try this product, but I can already tell I am going to like it. The formula is very smooth and the brush is thick to help create voluminous lashes.

5. skyn Iceland Cleansing Cloths. I was most excited to try these. I love a good cleansing cloth to take off the day. I have been wanting to try the skyn eye masks. After sampling and loving these cloths, I just might have to make that purchase soon.

Happy Mail!

When I arrived back at my apartment on Friday after a fantastic few days in Vegas, I was ecstatic to find I had so much happy mail waiting for me! Here are some of my favorite stickers from my most recent deliveries!

As soon as I saw the Rose Quartz Serenity stickers, I had to have them. I am so excited to decorate my planner, but I may save these for my birthday week in March!

PlanNstick is a new sticker shop and I am so excited to be working with Connie! She sent me a goodie bag which included these adorable stickers and more. I already used the plant stickers to help remind me to water my succulents. She also gave me a coupon code! Use MARY20 to receive 20% of your purchase, no minimum!

Sweet Bean Plans was one of the first shops I ordered from. I love her kits. They come with two pages, as shown above, and are a great price! I love this blue and pink color combo.

How adorable are these shopping bags! I am a Lush fanatic and could not wait to get my hands on these. This shop is based out of Canada, so the wait time is a bit longer, but totally worth it!

Disclaimer: I was sent items from PlanNstick in return for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Friday Five: Vegas Edition

My beautiful blue room at Mandalay Bay.

Dinner at Olive's with a view of The Bellagio Fountain.

Colorful entrance to The Beatles Love show.

My big win at the roulette table.

Chinese New Year Dragon at Caesar's Palace.

My first work trip was a whirlwind. We definitely lived up to the phrase 'Work Hard, Play Hard.' Our days were filled with taking in every vendor and product we could, while our nights consisted of five star restaurants and breathtaking performances. I had a wonderful time, both working and playing, but am happy to be home. Hope you had a nice week! Back to the regularly scheduled programming next week!

Vegas, Baby!

So far,Vegas has been amazing! Last night, we had a delicious dinner at the Bellagio overlooking the fountain followed by a breathtaking show at The Mirage. We saw The Beatles Love show! The entire night was absolutely incredible. Today, is our first day at the Expo and I'm excited to see all the new items for this year!
When I first purchased my planner, I immediately went on the hunt for Vegas stickers. I found two great sheets! The functional stickers are from Cricket Paper Co. and the decorative stickers are from Papermint Project. I love this weeks spread!

Carry On

I am currently on a plane to Las Vegas! I am seriously #adulting today. This is my first work trip! Myself and a few other employees are heading to an expo to see this year's latest and greatest promotional products. The flight is about 5 hours, so I made sure to pack a few things in my carry on to keep me occupied.

1. Laptop. I hope to work on some blog posts while high in the sky.

2. Books and magazines. I still need to finish Paper Towns before I see the movie. A good book and magazines are a must-have for me on any flight.

3. An oversized scarf. I tend to get chilly on planes. A cozy oversized scarf doubles as a neck pillow and a blanket.

4. Water and snacks. This is going to be the longest flight I have been on in awhile. I am going to grab a water bottle and some yummy snacks to munch on.

5. My Erin Condren Life Planner. Ever since I received my planner, is has not left my side.

6. Sunnies. It's going to be warm and sunny when we get to Vegas. By warm I mean about 60 degrees, but that's better than 25. I am really looking forward to having to wear sunglasses since it's been so cloudy here lately.

7. My phone. This is a no brainer. I love listening to music on flights. I already have a playlist put together. When I need a little entertainment, I have a few games to keep me occupied .

8. Makeup essentials. I never pack my makeup in my suitcase for fear it will be smashed. I tried to pack only the necessary items with a few extra lipsticks, of course.

Planning 101: The Planner's Tool Kit

When I opened up to the first week of January in my brand new Erin Condren planner, I could not wait to use the New Years stickers I had purchased and created. I jumped right in without hesitation, but in a matter of minutes, I was getting up and down repeatedly for scissors, tape, etc. As soon as I finished my first spread, I took everything I used and organized it in an old Birchbox so future planning would be a breeze.. Here is what I keep in my Planner's Tool Kit:

1. Glue Stick. A great tool for pasting stickers that have lost some of it's stick.  or for printables on standard paper.
2. Tape. You never know when you might need tape.
3. Multi colored Ink Joy pens. I picked these up at Rite Aid for about $3. I love having a variety of ink choices.
4. Post Its and Page Flags. To mark events for the following weeks or for a bit of extra space to add to a busy day.
5. Paper clips. I like to paper clip kits together so I don't loose track of any sheets.
6. Scissors. From trimming down washi, stickers, or cutting out printables.

I love having everything is one place that is easy to grab and go for traveling or planning anywhere around the house.  I'd love to hear what tools you use for your planning sessions!

Planning 101: Where To Start

Before I decided on investing in an Erin Condren planner, I did my research. And by research I mean I watched a ridiculous amount of Plan With Me videos on YouTube. By nature, I am a pretty organized person and I love to plan ahead. After watching hours of PWM videos, I knew I needed/wanted a planner to help me stay organized this year and have some fun with planner stickers. These videos also helped me decide which planner I wanted, which Etsy shops to check out and a starting pad for what stickers to purchase first. By the time I was ready to purchase a planner and some stickers, I felt pretty prepared. Although, I will say when it came to sticker shops, I was overwhelmed due to the amount of adorable stickers that are out there. Here are a few YouTube channels I watched to help get me started:

1. Scribble Prints Co.

I love watching Andrea's videos. She uses the Erin Condren Vertical planner, which I ended up purchasing. She also has an Etsy sticker shop, Scribble Prints Co.. Andrea features a lot of Etsy shops in her videos as well as her own stickers. She is a big user of kits which come with just about everything you would need from a weekly spread. Kits usually include full boxes, half boxes, washi, functional stickers, such as meal planning dots, pay day dots and a weekend banner. When ordering stickers I made sure to order kits. It's a great way to see which stickers you end up using and which ones you don't so you can order certain stickers separately. I found I love kits, but they usually don't have a lot of decorating stickers, so I order those separately.

2. MandaPhenom

Mandy might be my favorite Plan With Me YouTuber. She is so funny and friendly. I learned a great tip from her about pre-planning and the power of page flags. Using page flags or Post It notes, you can mark events or appointments and stick them over the day so you know what's going on for that day when decorating. I also learned the Target Dollar Spot is THE place to go for little goodies like page flags. When you are ready decorate, you can just peel them off and jot it down once you completed your spread.

3. Creating & Co.

Paige was one of the first PWM videos I watched. She has her layout down and as strange as it may sound, she helped me figure out how I would lay the stickers down. She tends to turn her planner every which way to get the stickers to be placed perfectly and it's been working wonders for me to do the same. Simple, but very helpful tips.

Watching videos really helped me prepare for the planning world. I hope this helps you too! Look out for more Planning 101 tips and tricks!

I am slowly working on one of my goals for this year. Little Ramblings now has it's own Instagram account. You can check it out here. I hope you enjoy! I would love to interact with readers on Insta and find out what you want to see on the blog this year and as well as hear any other comments you may have! I hope to see you over on the gram!

New Year, New Goals

I have always hesitated to use the word "resolution." It seems harsh, for lack of a better word. To me, a goal is a work in progress and something to strive for each day. For 2016, I have a few more goals than normal. This is going to be my year.
Here are the goals I have set for myself. I plan on saving half of each pay check. I am a serial spender and there is no reason for it. I want to eat smart. I would like to be more conscientious of what I put in my body. Less sugar, more fruits and veggies. Cook more, order less. I want to travel! I have a trip to the city planner for my birthday in March and I would love to visit a friend in Texas. In order to travel, I do need to save so those goals go hand in hand. Lip love.I own so many lipsticks. I love a bold lip for a pop of color, so in 2016 I will be wearing more lipstick. I used to be a regular tweeter, and then I just stopped. I want to tweet more! I kinda miss it. Lastly, I want to showcase my blog more. There are times when I feel my blog is not up to par as some others. But this is a hobby, not a job and I work hard at it. I am proud of my blog, I should show it off. My first task for this goal is to create a Little Ramblings Instagram account. Be on the look out for that!
I have some pretty lofty goals for this year, but I am excited to get started and make this year count!
