True Life: I am a scaredy cat. Haunted Houses are terrifying and nightmares last for weeks after I watch a scary movie. Every once in a while I get the urge to watch something scary, and moments after the movie ends, I regret my decision. When it comes to Halloween movies, I prefer tame tales. Hocus Pocus is a must watch every year, as well as It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. I grew up watching Peanuts movies and still love them to this day. For a bit scarier flicks, I do enjoy the classic film Halloween. I like the older horror films. Here is mt collection of favorite movies to watch around this time of year. I plan on watching as many as I can between now and Saturday.
1. Hocus Pocus
2. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
3. Teen Witch
4. The Nightmare Before Christmas
5. The Addams Family
7. Practical Magic
8. Edward Scissorhands
9. Sleepy Hollow
One of my favorite places to seek outfit inspiration are style blogs. I often find they help me find new ways to wear a jacket or skirt that I already have in my closet. More often, they inspire me to test my style boundaries with something as simple as wearing an ascot with jeans and a basic striped top. Little details can turn an old, boring outfit into a new and exciting ensemble. Here are four of my go-to bloggers in simple and attainable outfits I plan to replicate this fall.
I don't have any big Halloween plans. In truth, I have never been a big Halloween participant once I was no longer a trick or treater. I think I like the candy more than the actual holiday. This year, one of my friends is throwing a low key party. I wanted to dress up as something simple and comfortable. If you haven't noticed, that seems to be my MO. I have a leopard skirt I bought from Joe Fresh last fall that inspired my costume. I am all about using pieces already in my wardrobe. The only purchase I have made so far are these adorable cat ears. I also plan to pick up a dark red/purple lipstain. I was originally thinking red lips, but wanted to try something different. It is Halloween after all. I'm thinking Parisian Passion by Revlon. As simple (and basic) as my costume may be, I am excited to get dressed up. My TopShop pointy flats will add a fun flair without killing my feet at the end of the night, and I might even buy an off-the-shoulder top from H&M to spice up the outfit a bit.
What are your Halloween plans?
Winter is coming. The past few nights have been getting colder and it's only a matter of time before I start wearing my winter jackets full time. It's just bout time to dust off those moth balls or hit up the nearest winter sale. Winter jackets are going on sale left and right. Last year, I invested in a great wool jacket from Macy's and I love it. I plan on wearing that all winter long, but I do have my eye on a lighter jacket. For this year, I want to invest in a cape coat. I saw a friend wearing one the other day and I feel in love with it. I have seen them here and there, but I just wasn't sure how I felt about it until I saw one worn up close in person.
This year, I have also notices a lot of unconventional colored coats, if you will. It's easy to find a black and camel colored coat in every store, but I think a coat can and should be fun. I have a camel coat in my wardrobe and I adore it, especially for times when I want to dress up a bit. It's very chic, long and a bit androgynous. I like to wear all black underneath to really make a statement. A classic coat is a wardrobe staple, but a striped or a plaid jacket can really take your outerwear to the next level. Below are some coats I am loving for this season.
When it comes to Halloween, I have never been to most creative. I tend to veer towards ideas I can create from what's already in my closet so I only have to purchase one or two accessories to complete the look. One of the most iconic costumes seen year after year is Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's. I created two costumes from the movie: the famous little black dress with pearls and her pajama outfit with the teal eye mask.
(Malin+Goetz) vitamin e face moisturizer.I have been trying to get more into the habit of using vitamin based facial creams. I recently purchased an eye cream, but have been terrible about using it regularly.
Supergoop! Forever Young Hand Cream. Similar to my perfume, I prefer a scented hand cream, but Supergoop! has SPF in it which will be great for warmer days. So far, the bland smell is not doing it for me.
Benefit Roller Lash.I LOVE this mascara. I have been tempted to purchase this product so many times, but wanted to test it out first. I am so glad I was able to choose this sample for my October box. It did not disappoint. This formula goes on smooth and I definitely see a curl and lengthening happening to my lashes.
Of all the holidays, Halloween seems to come and go the quickest. I like to decorate with little knickknacks, but I try not to go over board. Finding pieces that can transition into Thanksgiving makes the purchasing process a little less guilt free. Here are some decorations I am loving:
This week at work we are celebrating Boss's Day by bringing in treats each day. So, I guess for us, it's more like Boss's Week. But that's fine by me! Everyday two or three people are bringing in goodies. On Monday, I brought in Homemade Halloween Bark. It was a huge hit and very simple to make. I combined a few recipes I found on Pinterest, but you can include whatever ingredients you'd like.
Ingredients I Used:
-Edible sugar eyes
I am going to a Halloween Party and I am thinking of making this again. I love the salty/sweet combination. See what other Halloween desserts I will be making this month on my Pinterest page.
My Sunday was spent baking Halloween goodies, taking in the beautiful fall colors and, of course, football. In the afternoon, my friend and I ventured to Chestnut Ridge State Park to see the changing leaves. The colors were just gorgeous. I love in love with fall all over again each year.
Saturday was National Handbag Day! I love bags and seeing what people carry around from day to day. I love the segment in Us Weekly where they show what celebs carry in their bag. Here's what I've been carrying in my everyday tote.
Last weekend, one of my girl friends and I ventured to Toronto for an overnight stay to see the Taylor Swift 1989 World Tour. The whole weekend was so much fun. I haven't been to Toronto in many years. The city is so beautiful. The concert was INCREDIBLE. I have been to quite a few concerts, but the 1989 World Tour is hands down the best concert I have ever seen. If you like TSwift even a little bit, I totally recommend seeing her live. It is well worth it!
Cold and flu season is here. For the last two days, I have been down for the count with a terrible cold. Over the years, I have perfected by cold remedy with cozy blankets, hot soup, and lots of DayQuil. Here are my go to cold remedy items:
1. Cough drops. Not only to they sooth a sore throat, the menthol helps clear your sinuses.
2. Tissues. I have seasonal allergies so I always have multiple boxes on hand.
3. DayQuil/NyQuil. I usually opt for the off-brand since it is a bit cheaper and gets the job done.
4. Soup. Lots of soup. Chicken Noodle is a staple, but I also like heartier soups, such as Chicken and Dumpling or a Beef Stew.
5. Tea. I always have a variety of teas stocked. Stash Mango Passionfruit is my favorite.
6. Gatorade. It's important to stay hydrated. I like Gatorade when I just can't drink water or tea any more.
7. Magazines. After a while, I get bored watching TV. I like to pick up one or two magazine to flip though when I'm bundled up and need a break from the television.
I love candles! I have a bad habit of picking up a candle at almost every store I stop in. I once bought a candle from Old Navy. It smells incredible. Who would have thunk? Around this time of year, I like to buy and burn anything that smells like pumpkin, apples, and cinnamon. Here are a few of my favorites:
I have discovered spray paint. It's a blessing and a curse. There are now quite a spray painted items in my apartment. The first spray paint project involved sconces. There is a very big wall when you first walk in to the apartment, and I decided to invest in one large art piece to be the focal point. But even with the print, the wall still felt empty. I thought gold sconces would make the room feel finished and sophisticated, while taking up a bit more wall space. I searched for about a week and found some options, but nothing that I loved. I wanted them to be simple so they wouldn't take away from the art. When I finally found the perfect sconce, there was only one problem. They were black. I didn't dawn on me right away to purchase them and just spray paint them gold, but when it did I was so excited!
It was a very simple and inexpensive DIY prohect. Here is what you'll need:
-Sconces, I purchased these.
-Cardboard or plastic to spray paint on.
I ended up doing 3 coats for good measure, but two coats is probably all you would really need. I left them dry for about an hour between each coat. I really love the way the sconces turned out! Thank goodness for spray paint!
