So, this year I decided to not make resolutions. I did, however, make a list of things I'd like to work on. I have made many a resolutions in the past and did not keep them up and felt guilty. So this year, I came up with things I would like to do to better myself. The word resolution just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I suppose. Personal preference, right? One thing I really want to incorporate into my life is a somewhat steady gym routine. I am 25, almost 26, and going to the gym was never something I did regularly. Mostly because I can think of 1,001 things I would rather do. But I am getting to that age, where "adult" things are starting to matter to me. Such as spending money on quality items and not numerous things from H&M (Work in progress that one. The deals!), and nice sheets for my bed (on my birthday wishlist).
So far my gym routine has been going pretty well. I try to go a few times a week after work. Nothing major. Just a half hour on an incline on the treadmill, some crunches, stretching, lunges, etc. I leave the gym feeling so good. I really do! After a long day, I can find it difficult to go to the gym. One of the best pieces of advice I have heard is, "don't think of the gym as punishment, think of it as reward." That has gotten me to the gym on more than one occasion.
With the gym, comes fun gym gear! I invested in a few key pieces for my gym sessions and that gets me excited to go workout in my new leggings and hot pink sports bra. For those you don't love the gym atmosphere (it is an acquired taste), yoga classes or even doing exercises at home can be just as effective. Pick up a brightly colored yoga mate or weights. I also love my bkr water bottle. It's made of glass and BPA and phthalates free. Winning! Another thing to look into is personal training sessions at your gym. This can be a little pricey, but if you feel like you may need some extra help or want to challenge yourself, the extra cost could be very worth it.
Are you a gym goer? What goals have you set for yourself this year?
