Marc Jacobs Launches Beauty Line

On August 9th, the amazing talented designer, Marc Jacobs, launched his very first beauty line. From lipstick to eye shadow palettes, this line has something in each beauty category. The eye shadow palettes range from subtle neutrals to eye popping purples. The price for this line is parallel with other designer beauty products you might find, such as YSL and Chanel. While $30 for a lipstick is not an ideal price, I definitely am interested in trying out the Marc Jacobs formula.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Warhol

Mr. Warhol would be 85 today. In honor of his birthday, I just wanted to share some of my favorite pieces from his collection. When I look upon the colors and vibrancy of his work, I cannot help but smile. Smile and wonder. Happy birthday, Andy Warhol!

Take Me to Le Paris

A day trip to Governor's Island this weekend turned into a journey through time to 19th century France. FĂȘte Paradiso is a collection of vintage carnival rides and carousels that has made it's summer home on Governor's Island. The atmosphere was peaceful and nostalgic. For a few hours I felt like a child in 1820's France. The details found on each carousel were so intricate and beautiful.

Shark Week Chic

In honor of Shark Week, I put together the perfect mix of chic and shark. I love the black and white shark tee paired with leather shorts for an edgy feel. A shark tooth necklace is a necessity along with gold metal accent heels, a bag that mimics the ocean's vibrate blue, and red lipstick, of course.

Shark Week

I plan on sweats and Oreos in bed for tonight's Shark Week premier, but I might have hunt down a shark tee this week and throw this outfit together. How excited are you for Shark Week?! I've had Discovery Channel on in the background all day while Shark Week reruns play.

Fall Color Trend: Cobalt

Cobalt is a big color trend this fall, and I am loving it! Blue has always been a favorite color of mine, and it compliments my skin tone. Bonus! I stopped in Zara the other day and stumbled upon their greatest sale ever!! I picked up the stunning cobalt peplum top (pictured above) for around $25, compared to the full price of $60+! It fits perfectly and is a great addition to my wardrobe. Even though the color is a bright, I can see my self wearing it for seasons to come!

Styling Cobalt

I am so excited to style this peplum top. This is one of so many ideas I have on how I plan to wear it. I am a huge fan of less is more, and with this outfit I want the top to do the talking. I kept it pretty simple with basic accessories, black pants, and a fun colored bag for a bit more color. I also love
This fall trend is one of many I am excited about! What fall trends are you excited to rock?

The Cat Craze

I was shopping in Macy's yesterday and every other garment had a cat face or a cat print on it. What is with cats being all over everything!? Now, don't get me wrong I like cats, they're okay, but I don't want them all over my clothes! What are your thoughts on the cat craze?

The Cat Craze

My opinion: there are some cats you can't resist (see: kitten in red glasses above), but then there is cat overload. I'm not saying I will never own a cat print item, but so far everything I have seen has been a bit much.
Thought of the day: It is possible to become a cat lady without actually owning a cat? With this recent trend, the waters will definitely be tested.

Lush Goodies

A few weeks ago, I altered my morning and evening face routine. It has been awhile since I changed up my facial products, and I was a bit hesitant at first, but my skin has never been more healthy and glowing! And it's all thanks to Lush!

Everything I use is from Lush and I cannot believe the results! I cleanse my face using the amazing Fresh Farmacy bar. This little bar lathers like no other! I just break off a little piece and it lasts me about a week and a half! There is a little bit of grit to it for exfoliating, but it's very minimal so it's not overkill for my skin.

After cleansing comes my favorite part- the toner water- Breath of Fresh Air. This stuff is a skin saver! It hydrates and tones my skin, making it feel so fresh and rejuvenated. Sometimes I just spray it on throughout the day for a fresh little wake up shot.

The last and final step of my routine in applying a bit of facial moisturizer. It took me some convincing to splurge on this product. Enzymion is about $40 per container, but I swear by it. I took home a sample to test out and I didn't think I would end up spending that kind of money. After three weeks of using the smallest sample, I knew I had to go back and buy it. I apply this while my skin is still a bit damp from the toner water. Moisturizers and lotions work best when skin is wet because the product absorbs better into the skin (Thank you Lush consultant!). I use just a dab of this twice a day and my skin has never looked better!

If you have never tried Lush or are looking to refresh your beauty routine, I cannot say enough wonderful things about Lush!

Summer Bucket List

Happy summer! NYC has kicked off the first day of summer with a beautiful day and a weekend full of sunshine. I am so excited for my first summer in the city. There is so much I have already done since classes ended, but there is still a lot more I'd like to explore before August creeps around.

1. Bike ride through Central Park.
2. Spend a day at the Botanical Gardens.
2. Lay out and read in the Great Lawn of Central Park.
3. Watch a movie in Bryant Park.
4. Venture to Coney Island.
5. Go to the Bronx Zoo.
6. Attend Yoga to the People classes.
7. Explore rooftop bars such as Gallow Green and Salon de Ning.
8. Check out the Brooklyn Brewery.
9. Take weekend trip (or two) to D.C..
10. Wander through the Natural History Museum.

What's on your summer bucket list?

App Love

I love discovering fun new apps and sometimes rediscovering old ones. Here are some apps I am loving right now.

1. BeautifulMess

This app lets you create fun little doodles and text on top of photos you take. It costs $0.99, but I promise it's worth it!

2. Draw Something 2 Free

I used to have Draw Something Free and even though I was slightly obsessed, it died out after a bit. My friend told me about Draw Something 2 a few weeks ago and I have been hooked (again) ever since.

3. Cards
My friend told me about this awesome app that allows you to make cards using your own pictures, as well as premade designs. The app itself is free, and for about 3 dollars, you can actually mail a hard copy of your creation to a friend or family member. Since I love snail mail and stationary, I had to download this app. I already sent my dad a card and I am planning on sending one to everyone in my contact list.

What apps are you constantly opening these days?

One of the simplest ways to pamper yourself is by indulging in a warm bath or shower and using your favorite soaps and lotions. I am lover of L'Occitane products. I recently discovered their Almond Delicious Soap. It has pieces of almond in the soap to exfoliate your skin. It has is a subtle floral scent that is so soothing. I also use the L'Occitane Cherry Blossom hand cream. It is thick and creamy without feeling heavy and slick after you apply it. For when I really want to treat myself, I turn to a body scrub. The sea salts exfoliate your skin and leave you feeling like you just had a mini body massage. It is such a simple and great way to pamper yourself.
What do you do to pamper yourself?

In Bloom

This past weekend I was lucky enough to have my mom in the city to visit me for a few days. We had such a great time walking around, finding new restaurants, and attending Jersey Boys on Friday night. The weather was perfect and we must have walked what felt like 20 miles each day.
I showed her some of my favorite spots in NYC from the Jackie O. Reservoir to the best place for bagels and veggie cream cheese. Everywhere we walked flowers and trees were in full bloom. Park Avenue is covered in red tulips, and cherry blossoms shade the reservoir running path.

On Saturday, my mother and I made our way to the East Meadow for an afternoon lounging in the sun. That is sure to be my go-to spot this summer. I am so eager for this semester to come to an end so I can spend more sunny days in the park. Give me a good book and the sunshine and I will be set for hours. Maybe a little catnap for good measure.

A Sad Day

I want to take a detour from my usual posts and take a moment to address the tragedy that took place in Boston yesterday. Over the past few months, tragedy has struck the U.S. more times than I can remember in my entire 24 years. Yesterday's events were the straw that broke the camel's back. I have not been able to stop thinking about what happened. This morning on the subway I had to use all of my strength to restrain tears from running down my cheeks as I read the numerous articles on the Boston Marathon bombing in the NY Metro newspaper. The thoughtless, reckless and unnecessary deaths that have occurred these past few months will forever leave me wondering why people cause this kind of pain and havoc. Why? And for what reason?

While my mind has been filled with sad and negative thoughts, I have been trying to turn to the positive stories that can be found even in the wake of disasters. Without these stories and photos, I truly think my hope would be lost. Although an article about people donating blood and rushing to help those injured at the finish line does not reverse this tragedy, it can at least help to find the light in the darkness.

Boston and all of those effected, you are in my thoughts and prayers. To the police officers who are stationed throughout Boston, New York, and DC, thank you for your service. To those who rushed to assist people in need, thank you for your bravery and selflessness.

Here are some wise words from Mr. Rogers to shed some hope and light onto a dark and tragic event.

Festival Style

Festival Style

Coachella kicked off yesterday in Indio, CA. Someday, I would love to attend. Until then, I will live vicariously through Instagram photos and Youtube live feed.
Here are some outfits I put together that were inspired by this desert music festival.

April Showers

April Showers

Spring means rain, but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your style.  A good trench is a wardrobe staple, and it looks good over anything, from casual to dressy. My go-to outfit will always be my favorite jeans and a loose top. The orange top shown above is a great color for Spring and can brighten any rainy day. Add a pretty bauble necklace for more color and a fun accessory. Booties are a great alternative to rain boots, especially during Spring when little rain showers come and go.
What's your ideal rainy day look?

Simple Spendings

When I tell people I live in New York City, the first thing they say is, "That place is so expensive." While some things are more expensive in the big apple (living, 5 star restaurants, The Plaza Hotel), there is so much to do that doesn't have to cost much or anything at all. It all depends on where you go and when.

Today, I had the perfect NYC afternoon and spent just over 20 dollars. It started with lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant Blockheads. The lunch special is $7 and you can get a $2 margarita. That is a delicious and filling meal with a drink for $9 plus a tip! Amazing! After lunch, my girl friend and I ventured over to 16 Handles for some froyo. I indulged in a small cup of frozen yogurt and spent under 2 dollars.

While finishing up my sweet treat, I made my way over to Central Park to walk around, people watch, take some pictures, and even wrote for a bit on a park bench. I did all of that for free. :) On my walk home, I stopped at a little bodega on the corner to pick up a bouquet of fresh flowers for 7 dollars. I love flowers and after spending the day outside, I wanted to bring the outdoors indoors.

I had a lovely afternoon and only spent about 21 dollars. I am sure there will be some days when I enjoy the city and all it has to offer, from Central Park to museums, for no cost at all, and of course, there will also be some days I spend a bit more. But for the most part, you just have to know where to go and when to go. It can be expensive no mater where you live, the trick is to be a savvy spender.

Hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather as much as I am!

Spring is in the Air

Since moving to the city and starting classes at LIM College, I have learned more about J. Crew in each class I have taken than about any other company.

I have always love J.Crew, but after learning about the amazing Mickey Drexler and creative director Jenna Lyons, I now love everything about the company. When Mickey Drexler took over at J.Crew, he completely revamped the brand and developed the incredible household name we know and love today. While, I am on a college budget, I try to grab some steals here and there (always using my student i.d. for a little discount). I received an email a few weeks back that included how to style some of the beautiful spring pieces and fell in love with the looks above. I am excited to take pieces I already have in my closet and recreate some of these polished and relaxed looks when the sun decides to stick around.
What are some of your favorite brands? How would you put your own personal spin on some of these outfits?

What I'm Loving

What I'm Loving

I did a bit of shopping this weekend and found some great pieces at Forever 21. I love that store. I picked up a grey top with faux leather sleeves and pocket. Leather details are a great way to add a subtle edge to your wardrobe. This tee can be worn as is or with a fun necklace or scarf. You could also pair it with skinny jeans or a skirt. This shirt is very versatile.  My second purchase from F21 was a great pair of print pants. They were the last pair in the store, fit like a glove, and were under $18! A black top would be great with these or a fun spring color, like green or yellow. I am looking forward to wearing these now, in the spring, and even next fall. A lot of pieces in your wardrobe can be worn all year if paired appropriately.
For non-apparel items, I have been wearing a beautiful gold infinity ring I bought from Baublebar. I love its simplicity. When it comes to jewelry, I love statement pieces, but I also want a balance of classic pieces. This ring is one of my favorite classic pieces.
I purchased an amazing lipstick a few weeks ago and having been wearing it on a daily basis. It's called Unique Pink by Sephora. The lipstick picks up the natural color in your lips and enhances it, creating a color that is unique to you. I adore this product. It gives my lips a beautiful pink shade and is very moisturizing. I can throw this on with any outfit and my makeup and outfit feels complete. This is going to be a great product for spring and summer, it is light weight and an great go to color.

Midterm Madness: Finding Balance

If you're a college student, like me, you may be in the midst of midterm week. Luckily, I have just one midterm left, and I survived the week without loosing my mind. School is very important to me and I want to do well, but not at the expense of my mental or emotional health. Here are a few tips to help you through midterm week, or any stressful time in your life.

Finding Balance

1.) Stay ahead of the curve. This is a motto I am still learning. There are some days when I am able to devote extra time to get work done well before it is due, and other days when I'm so swamped I don't think I'll get through anything. When you know you are going to have a lot on your plate, such as the week before midterms, try to get as much done beforehand as you can, that way when midterm week rolls around you will feel prepared and not as overwhelmed.

2.) If you need a break, take one. When I have a lot on my plate, I tend to try to get it all done in one sitting. I have discovered that is not the best approach for me. After a while, I hit a wall and start to struggle if I spend too much time on one thing. Not only is this stressful, but you won't give your best work. Take a break and come back to it in a few hours. Over the weekend, I spent all of Sunday afternoon working on one project, and around 5pm I went to the movies. It was a great break. After a few hours of not thinking about the project,  I was able to go back to it with fresh eyes and a clear mind.

3.) Get your sleep. I have never pulled an all-nighter. I am sure there were some nights when I should have, but sleep is far too important to me. Just last night, I was working on some last minute details for another project. Around 11pm, I was loosing motivation and getting quite sleepy. Instead of powering through it, I set my alarm for an hour earlier than I would normally get up and hit the hay. This morning I woke up earlier and finished the project. Not only did I get the rest I needed, but I was once again able to take a second look at everything with fresh eyes. I know had I stayed up to finish the project it would not have been my best work.

4.) Eat breakfast. This has been engrained into my brain since I was little. My mom always stresses that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and she is right. I always try to eat a little something, even if that only includes a cup of coffee. At least you have something in your stomach. Eating breakfast not only speeds up your metabolism, but it also gives you energy to wake up and get your day going. I know when I don't eat breakfast I get pretty crabby around 11am and end up eating more than I need to for lunch.

5.) Don't be afraid to ask questions. Some of the best advice I can give to college students is to form a relationship with your professors. They truly enjoy students who are engaged and active. I have a great relationship with my Marketing professor and I know if ever I have a problem or question with the work, I can always ask him for clarification and assistance. He has even offered to help in other areas, such as internships and various school activities. Your professors are your best sources for networking, as well as educational purposes, so take advantage of that. They do want to see you succeed.

I hope these little tips helped. Good luck with midterms and any other stressful situations you may have headed your way! Don't let the stress get you down. What tips and tricks do you have for finding balance during stressful times?
