Please excuse my absence, I have been thoroughly enjoying my Summer. Wine nights with girlfriends, walks by the lake, dinner with my cousin, lazy days by the pool. So far it has been a great start to the summer.

You can find these photos and many more on Instagram. Follow me @maryelizabethrose. Today, my girlfriend and I are taking a little road trip to visit our friend in DC. It is one of my favorite cities. The monuments and buildings are beautiful. There will be instagram overload! Hope you have had a wonderful June! What have you been up to?

At the Lake

Warm summer nights means flowy dresses and wavy hair. I love not having to worry about bringing a sweater or jacket with my at night (a majority of the time) during the summer months. Last night was another perfect weather evening spent with my cousin. We went out to dinner at a fantastic Thai restaurant and met up with some friends for a drink afterwards. This beautiful lake is one block away from where we where going to dinner, so I asked my cousin if she would be willing to be my photographer. I am so happy with the pictures and I hope to have her snap some more photos throughout the summer before she lands a great job in a new city!

Sunrays & Skin

Shave those legs ladies! It's shorts season! Last year, I picked up four pairs of colorful shorts from Gap for 10 dollars each! I wore them all the time last Summer, and they have been staple pieces in my wardrobe this Spring as well! They are so comfortable and light. I wore my periwinkle shorts with a white sleeveless button down top from Forever 21 for an afternoon outing with a girlfriend (whose so graciously took these photos). I love the simple and sweet lace detail on the top.

For a fun and girly touch, I wore my new favorite floral flats that I picked up from Wet Seal for a penny. Yep, a penny. Wet Seal had a great 'buy one clearance item, get one for a penny,' so I bought a pair of adorable booties one sale for 20 dollars and those flats for a penny! I love a bargain.
What are your feelings on colored shorts? How are you rocking them this Spring?

Mix & Match

This summer, instead of buying three or four new bathing suits, I'm going to work with what I have. There is a simple and affordable way to get three (or more) suits by just switching the top or the bottom. Mix and match. If you have one suit that you love, you can create various looks just by changing the top of bottom. If your favorite suit is a pattern, find solid tops or bottoms that work with the colors in the pattern. For example, if you have a floral pattern suit (like the one above), you can not only wear it with the matching bottom, but you could mix it with a solid red, blue, or yellow. You could also use a patterned bottom and pair it with a solid top. If you don't know if you should wear a pattern on top or bottom , go by your body type. I am well endowed in the upper part of my body, so I prefer to wear a solid top to give the illusion that my girls are a bit smaller, and by doing so, it puts the focus more on my lower half because I have on a fun patterned bottom.
Depending on the suits you already have in your collection, you might not have to buy anything new this summer. But if you don't have anything that would work together, just find one or two suits you would want to mix and match then buy a piece or two to play around with. That way instead of buying two whole new suits, you could spend about 30 dollars on two pieces and have 4 new bikinis to hit the pool or beach in.  This money saving trip is especially great if you have any summer vacations planned. Don't spend all your money on new suits, just create new looks with what you already have!

DIY Arm Candy

When I was little, I used to make string bracelets all the time. I was digging through my jewelry the other day when I came across a few bracelets I made over the years. I threw them on and immediately fell in love all over again.
I like wearing my bracelets on their own, but I also like to mix and match them with other bracelets in my collection. Here are a few looks I created using metals and faux leather. I adore the pink bow! A Forever 21 $1.50 find!
Which creation do you like the best?

Here's a fun picture snapped of me sporting my bracelets before a night out with the girls listening to live music at the harbor. I can't wait to make more! There are some great tutorials I found on Youtube to help you create some awesome handmade arm candy. My favorite patterns are the Chevron and the Candy Stripe. What is your favorite pattern? I'd love to see your handy work! Tweet me a pic @maryelizabeths!

May Favorites

May has come and gone, and June is underway. You know what this means?! May Favorites! My favorites for the month of May consist of equal parts beauty products and accessories, if you will. I found some new things that I fell in love with and am so excited to share with you!

 {Fifty Shades Darker. The second book in the Fifty Shades series by E.L. James. Small crossbody bags (similar). Fun rings from Forever 21 (similar).}

{Revlon Lip Butter in Cherry Tart. L'Occitane Hand Cream. They're Real Mascara by Benefit.}

I knew what my May favorites where the first week into May. I have used, worn or read these things each day. I am almost finished with Fifty Shades Darker! I will admit it is not the best written book I have ever read, but the story line is quite intriguing. I am not the romance novel type, so this series has been interesting, to say the least. Have you gotten into the series? What do you think? I found that adorable little crossbody bag on sale at Rainbow for ten dollars! My bags are slowly getting smaller and smaller, which is not helping me for when I move to NYC and I will need a bag big enough to tote my life around in. Forever 21's jewelry section gets me every time! I have found so many great pieces (that I still have to share with you!) and so many of the items have been $1.50! These rings are so fun! They came in a pack for around 3 dollars. I love their simplicity and subtle edginess.  I am a huge fan of the Revlon Lip Butters. Cherry Tart is the perfect shade of red for my skin tone and I have been wearing it when I go out at night. I love pairing red lips with a simple all black outfit. Benefit makes the best mascara, hands down.  I was in love with BadGal Lash and now I am hooked on They're Real. The length this mascara gives my lashes is unreal and they look so natural! For months, I have wanted to try L'Occitane hand cream and I finally picked it up at Sephora last month and have been using it ever since. I want to try out their scented hand creams as well, so I will be sure to let you know what I think!
What were your May Favorites?
