"Oh, the Places You'll Go"

On Friday, the weather was beautiful. The sun was out and I could not wait to spend the day wondering the city. I ended up walking around Central Park for hours. It was one of my favorite days ever spent in NYC.
The first stop of my adventure was at Crumbs to pick up some delicious cupcakes. The employees were so cheerful and nice, it made the experience twice as sweet. There were so many flavors to choose from, it took me about 5 minutes to decide. Finally, I opted for a Red Velvet cupcake.

After leaving Crumbs, I walked a few blocks over and made my way into Central Park. I stopped along a busy running trail to snap this photo of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. The view was spectacular. After looking across the reservoir and day dreaming about one day living in one of those gorgeous building overlooking Central Park, I ventured along the paths to find the Alice in Wonderland statue.

The statue was amazing. I felt like a little girl who believed in magic when I first saw the statue. I found an empty park bench where I just sat and looked at it for a bit. There were a lot of people in the park that day. I could have sat and people watched for hours. There were families and friends all taking pictures on and around the statue. I almost asked someone to take my photo, but instead just waited for the opportune moment to take a picture when no one was on the statue.

I found this bench to sit on for a bit and people watch for a bit more before going to find the Bethesda Terrace. Children were playing with remote controlled sailboats, an older woman on the bench next to me was reading a book, people were having lunch at a little cafe, and I was just enjoying the views. I swear if I lived in the city, I would visit Central Park all the time. It's like a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

I sat on the park bench for about a half hour before finally deciding to try and find the fountain. It was actually much closer then I thought it would be. My first thought when I saw the angel sitting atop the fountain was "This is breathtaking." The fountain and everything around it was so serene. I sat on the side of the fountain for a few minutes and took some photos.

This is the view from the top of the stairs. Isn't it so pretty?

The heat was starting to get to me, so I stopped at a concession stand for a bottle of water, threw my hair in a braid to get it off my neck, and went on my way. I didn't really know where I was going, but I ended up walking down The Mall. The Mall in Central Park is the famous area you see in pictures of the a big walkway and a canopy of trees. There were people rollerblading, singing and playing the guitar hoping to earn a bit of money, artists sketching people, and little stands that were selling prints of NYC and other various places. I bought 6 prints for $15. I'll post the prints in tomorrow's blog. :)
After walking around the Mall for a bit, I decided to make my way out of the park. I wanted to do a bit more shopping. I mean, I am in NYC. The first time I ever visited the city, my mom and I found this awesome little shop called Necessary Clothing. The sell really unique pieces for a great price. I found the nearest subway and made my way down to Soho, one of my favorite areas of New York. I found some great things at Necessary Clothing and discovered my new favorite boutique called Mystique Boutique on Broadway. I will do a shopping post tomorrow to show you my findings.
Once I was all shopped out, I hopped back on the subway to head back to Ashely's apartment. But I had to make one more stop. Grand Central Terminal. I walked around, looked at some shops and of course, took a picture. I even made my first MAC purchase at the MAC shop in the terminal! I'm so excited to show you what I picked out!

Once I left Grand Central, I took the subway back to Ashley's apartment. It was about 7 o'clock so it had cooled off a bit and the temperature was perfect. I took my time walking the few blocks back to the apartment, stopping to pick up some fresh blueberries and taking a photo of a little corner store that sells flowers on the sidewalk. If I lived in the city, another thing I would love to do is buy fresh flowers to decorate my apartment.

So, that was my lovely Friday afternoon. It was a perfect, relaxing day spent wandering the park and shopping adorable boutiques.

We Shopped Till We Dropped

Yesterday, was my first full day in the city. The forecast predicted rain so we figured we would spend the day indoors shopping. We went to my two favorite stores, H&M and Forever 21. I wasn't shopping for anything in particular. I knew I wanted to find a long beige sweater for the Fall, but that was about it. Well, I found an amazing sweater that is exactly what I picture in my head, plus a ton more items! It hit the jack pot at H&M, and found some amazing pieces at Forever 21! I am so excited for the temperature to drop a few degrees so I can sport my new staple items for the Fall. One of my favorite purchases is the beautiful layered necklace pictures above. The colors are prefect for Fall and will go with about any outfit since the teardrops are pretty neutral colors. I picked up that necklace at Forever 21 for $7.80!

{Lace Top, H&M, $24.95}

{Long Sweater in Beige, H&M, $24.95}

{Black & White Stripped Top, H&M, $14.95}

{Cropped Pants in Tan & Navy Blue, H&M, $14.95 each}

{Reddish Orange Jersey Skirt, H&M $5.95}

{Blazer, Forever 21, $21}

{Ruffle Top, Forever 21, $12.80}

I am so in love with all of my purchases. I think I am most excited about the lace top and the cropped pants. I also love the nautical feel of the ruffle top. I can't wait to mix and match of the these pieces to create numerous outfits all throughout Fall.
After shopping the day away, we headed back to Ashley's apartment to relax for a bit before heading out to dinner. We went to our favorite burger joint in town, The Shake Shack. The ordered our food and snagged a table outside to enjoy the cool breeze. Once we scarfed down our dinner, we walked around for a bit and planned our next move. After some deliberation we decided to buy a bottle of wine and some snacks to take back to the apartment for a fun, relaxing night in. It was a great day!
Today, we are spending the day at Central Park. We are packing a lunch, picking up Crumbs cupcakes (which I hear are delicious, and I'm very excited), and wondering around the park for the afternoon. Tonight, we are going to walk the Brooklyn Bridge. I am so excited! Lots of pictures to come!

P.S.- I reached 100 followers! Thank you all so much! Be on the look out for a giveaway! Details will be posted next week!

Guess Where I Am?

I'll give you a hint! It's one of my favorite places in the world, and I hope to move here someday! If you guessed New York City you are right! I planned a very spontaneous and last minute trip to the Big Apple a few days ago to visit my best friend. I start classes next week and a new job, so I figured I better get in a quick little trip before I'm all tied down with morning shifts and night classes.
I decided to take the train into Penn Station. It was less expensive then flying since it was so last minute. I have only ever taken the train once before when I was very young so I don't remember much. Despite it being an 8 hour trip, it was very relaxing. I was fully prepared with my laptop, a book, a magazine, my iPod, and snacks, but all I ended up doing was listening to music, glancing at the magazine and mostly getting lost in the scenery. I could stare out the window of a moving vehicle for hours and be completely content. I saw a few butterflies, a deer and some men working on the railroad.
After being on the train for about 8 hours, I was getting very antsy. By the time we reached Yonkers I was trying to contain my excitement and anticipation. When I got off the train, I made my way up to warm and busy streets of NYC. I was smiling from ear to ear! I honestly stood on the corner of West 31st and 8th street for a few minutes just people watching until I made my way over to the curb to hail a cab.
Once in the cab, my driver was zigging and zagging in and out of traffic (thank goodness I don't get motion sickness) and we took Madison all the way up to get to my girlfriend's apartment. Once again, I was staring out the window as we passed by Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, J.Crew, Tom Ford, Coach, Vera Wang, the Palace Hotel where they filmed Gossip Girl, and so many other amazing places.
When I finally arrived at Ashley's apartment, it was about 11pm. I was so hungry so I ordered take out from the amazing 24 hour restaurant that has everything on the menu and more! I decided on a Chicken Parmigiana Hero. It was delivered in record time and was so delicious! For the rest of the night, Ash, her roommate and I chatted for a bit about school and life. Once Ash's roommate hit the hay, we caught up on Tuesday's episode of Pretty Little Liars and watched a few movies before finally passing out around 4am.
It was a fun first night and I am so excited for the next few days. We don't have anything set in stone, but we have thrown around ideas of going to the Bronx Zoo, walking the Brooklyn Bridge, spending a day in Central Park, and of course, shopping! I think we might do some shopping today and go to our favorite burger place, The Shake Shack! Seriously, amazing burgers!
I will be sure to keep you posted on what we do! And try to include some photos! I love taking pictures so I am sure that won't be a problem! The last time I came to visit Ashley, I took so many photos! You can check out everything we did and what we saw in the five NYC posts under February 2011! Hope you enjoy!

I Have Found True Love

I did it! I finally purchased the Urban Decay Naked Palette and I am in love! I cannot say enough great things about this palette. I bought this palette about a week ago and I have used it everyday since then. The colors are amazing and perfect for me. I love nudes, neutrals and browns. My favorite thing about having this palette is that you can create so many different looks and all the colors and shades you need are all in one place. Another great feature about these eye shadows is that some are matte, some are shimmery and some are incredibly shimmery. I love that there is a mixture. Oh, and how could I forget to mention the brush! One of the best brushes I have ever used. So soft.

I love all of the colors, but the ones I have used the most are Virgin and/or Sin as a base color, Sidecar or Buck in my crease, and Halfbaked, Smog, or Darkhorse in the outer corner of my lid. On most days, I only use two, maybe three, colors for a subtle day look, but if I'm going out at night I will combine a few shadows for a more dramatic look. I will try to take some pictures the next time I get all dolled up. :)
I do have one little problem with this palette and hopefully you guys can help me out. After a few hours, maybe halfway through the day, I usually have to reapply some more eyeshadow because it has worn away. I always use the Urban Decay Primer Potion before apply any shadow, but that doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Do you have any pointers or tricks I could try? I love this palette and this small problem won't deter me from using it or suggesting it to other people, but it is a bit of an annoyance seeing as it was a pretty penny. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! Hope you guys enjoyed this post and if you have the Naked palette I would love to hear your thoughts!

Flash Back to the 60s

{Source: Miss Moss}

I saw this picture on an amazing new site I stumbled upon, and I had to share it with you! I love the tights! I mean, look at those patterns. They are incredible! They make me want to go out and find the most abstract and unique tights possible and pair them with a solid colored dress and long, over-exaggerated necklaces. I feel compelled to add this look to my Fall wardrobe.

Did anyone see the season finale of Pretty Little Liars??? So good! Like I have said 100 times, I love that show and the clothes! Out of all the girls, I love Spencer's style the most, so I decided to create a little inspiration board. I feel like these pieces capture Spencer's classic and chic style. Many of the pieces can be mixed and matched to create the perfect Fall outfits. Which one of the Pretty Little Liars do you relate to style wise? Pretty In Pink

Pretty In Pink

Pretty In Pink by missmaryelizabeth on Polyvore.com

This nail look was inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Cupcakes and Cashmere. I saw this picture in one of her blog posts and I knew I had to be a copycat. I used OPI's Pink of Hearts and Glamorous Glitter from Forever 21's Love & Beauty line. I love the way my nails turned out! I am a big fan of the "accent nail." I think it is a fun and subtle way to add some pizazz.

What are your thoughts on the accent nail? What are your two favorite polishes to pair together?

August Birchbox!

It has arrived! My August Birchbox! And once again, I love everything in it!

The Lift Lab serum sounds great! I haven't tried it yet, but I am definitely looking forward to finding out how it will work to regenerate the skin cells on face and help fight anti-aging. It's never too soon to start taking care of your skin for the future. I also received a black hair tie that is super soft and stretchy, and, like the card that came in my Birchbox said, it can also double as a cute bracelet when you're not wearing it in your hair.

This mascara is amazing! I went to the fair the other day and decided to get a little dolled up. I wore a cute floral dress I picked up at Marshall's (my new go to store) and put on this mascara along with my other usual beauty products. I don't wear mascara very often. Usually just for special occasions or if I feel like really looking my best at work or something. But I love love love this mascara! I will probably wear it everyday just because of how great it is! It does not clump! I'm serious! Not one little clump! It makes my lashes so long and pretty and natural looking. It is not a thick mascara, so even with two coats my lashes look long and lean. Very rare. For me at least. The sample they sent me is a pretty good size so I plan on using it up before buying myself the full size tube.

I am also in love with these two products! The Befine Exfoliating Cleaner is out of this world! I have used it twice already and it left my skin feeling so refreshed and beyond smooth. I'm seriously considering purchasing this product. The Befine Night Cream is great as well! It's a light cream that doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy or oily, and I wake up the next morning with fresh, glowing skin.

OMG! I am not a big perfume gal, which is kind of ridiculous since I am 22, you'd think I'd have tons of perfume bottles collected over the years, but that is not the case at all. I have only purchased, one, yes one, perfume in my entire life. I kid you not. A few years ago, I got a few samples of Juicy Couture by Juicy Couture, and I fell in love so I decided to splurge and buy the big bottle. That has been my first and only perfume purchase. But I am telling you right now that is about to change. I am completely and utterly in love with Twirl by Kate Spade. The smell is amazing. It's girly and flowery without being over the top, and it has a bit of a citrus smell to tone down the floral scents. I am in love! I will definitely be purchasing this perfume in the near future! This is probably my favorite item from this month's Birchbox!

Are you signed up for Birchbox? Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them? What product do you want try out most after reading this post?

Back to School Tag

Arianne tagged me in a back to school post! Thanks girl! I am very excited to answer the questions! I love the back to school season! So, let's get started!

What are you excited and/or nervous for this year?

I am excited to get back into the school mode. I have always liked school, and I'm looking forward to taking some classes I have wanted to get out of the way. But I am nervous about the classes I'm going to take, especially Accounting and Statistics. I am also nervous about going to school in general because I am transferring to a new school and that is definitely a little nerve wracking.

What's your favorite part of getting ready for back to school?
I love buying new notebooks and pens and pencils. :) I am such a nerd sometimes. And of course, I love finding a few new pieces to add to my Fall wardrobe.

What grade were you in when you first started wearing makeup to school?
I think I was about 14 or15. I didn't start wearing makeup until a few months into my Freshman year of high school.

Where or from whom do you like getting inspiration for back to school?
I get a lot of my inspiration from magazines and TV shows. I usually go to the mall and shop in stores such as Forever 21 and H&M. I also really love shopping at Target and Marshall's. If you have the time and patience, you can find some great things at Marshall's!

What are your favorite upcoming "back to school"/fall trends for this year?
I love the cropped or rolled up loose jeans and olive colored pieces, such as pants and Fall jackets.

Where do you like to go shopping for back to school supplies?
Target has the cutest notebooks and folders.

What are your favorite stores to go back to school clothes shopping?
Target, Forever 21, The Gap, Old Navy, H&M, Marshall's, etc..

Will you be carrying a backpack or a purse to school this year?
A purse. I use one of my bigger purses so I can fit all my books and notebook, as well as personal items.

What are 3 non-beauty essentials you HAVE to carry in your backpack/purse?
Kleenex. I have bad allergies, especially in the Fall, so tissues are an essential item in my purse all throughout the year. Water. I try to drink 8 glasses a day and try to stay away from super sugary drinks, so water is the way to go. And last but not least, gum. Not only does it keep your breath fresh and good to have after a meal or snack, but chewing gum is proven to help people focus.

What are your go-to hair products for this year, and what is your go-to hair style?
I always use Garnier Fructis Leave-In Conditioner after I get out of the shower and Dove hairspray to tame flyaways. My go to hair style is parting it on the side and leaving it down. Simple and easy.
What are your go-to clothing items for back to school, and what accessories do you plan to rock this year?
I almost always wear jeans with a cute top and flats. Its simple and chic. For accessories, I love wearing simple and delicate necklaces and cute stud earrings. I am really into rings right now too.

This was such a fun tag! I would like to tag all of my followers! If you decide to do this tag let me know because I would love to see your answers!

Travel Tips: What's In My Carry-On

I'm back!!! Yesterday, I returned home from a week long vacation in Myrtle Beach! That's why I have been lacking in the posts department. But, I'm home now after a great vacation and so excited about all the new posts I have planned! I wanted to publish this post before I left, but my computer is having some problems so I wasn't able to, but better late than never!
I love to travel! Over the years, I have flown on a plane dozens of times, so I would consider myself a pro-traveler. My favorite part about traveling is flying and packing my carry-on.
Here is a look at what I like to bring on the plane with me to stay occupied and ensure some of my things are safe and sound.

What's In My Carry-On

What's In My Carry-On by missmaryelizabeth featuring ray ban shades

I take my favorite large black bag from Forever 21 on the plane because it holds A LOT and is very sturdy. The one pictured above is very similar to my bag. I also bring:
~My iPod
~The latest magazines and whatever book I'm reading (The Help by Kathryn Stockett)
~EOS lip balm. I can't live without this stuff.
~My sunnies.
~Tissues. Just in case. :)
~Gum to help pop my ears.
~A sweater because planes are always a bit cold.
~My makeup case. I bought a new Betseyville case that I love! It's very similar to the one pictured, except mine is purple. Look for an updated What's In My Makeup Bag coming soon!
~My jewelry. I prefer my bring my jewelry and make up on the plane with me so I know it won't be thrown around in cargo. I would probably cry if my jewelry or make up broke. Also, in the rare chance than my luggage was lost, at least I would have my makeup. :)

When you travel, what do you like to bring in your carry-on? Are you going on vacation anytime soon? Where is your favorite vacation spot? Be on the look out for my post about my vacation!It was my first time in Myrtle Beach and I loved it!

Confetti Nails

I got a little carried away with my glitter nail polish the other day. After purchasing my new nail polish from Ulta I was very excited to try them all out, but especially excited about trying the Pinata-Yada-Yada multi-colored glitter polish. The result left my nails looking edible. Every time I would look down my nails, they reminded me of little cupcakes with confetti sprinkles!

Claire's Matte White polish & Ulta Pinata-Yada-Yada

As edible as these nails are, I did not keep this polish n for very long. I love the glitter polish, but there was something about pairing it with the white polish that I didn't love. But, it was a fun look for a day or so. The glitter polish is going to be saved for special occasions, such as Girl's Night Out, my little cousin's birthday party, my birthday party, etc. But for everyday, it's just a bit much.
What do you think of this look? Where would you where these glittery nails?

Luscious Lips

I have a new addiction. Lipstick. Now, that I am getting older, I feel as though I need to move up the ladder from lip glosses to the more mature and professional lip product, better known as lipstick. Don't get me wrong, I love my lip glosses. They go on smoothly, keep my lips moisturized, and give my lips a subtle shine. But I would like to start a small lipstick collection for when I start looking for... dun dun dun... a real job. I think lipsticks are very chic and add that touch of color without the sparkle and shine that most lip glosses provide. I found the two lovely colors below and have been testing them out at work and when going out to dinner or somewhere that I can dress up a little more than usual.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Gentlemen prefer pink & Coralberry

Top swatch is Coralberry and the bottom is Gentlemen Prefer Pink

I picked up both of these lipsticks at my local grocery store on sale for $5.99, originally $7.99. I love love love the Coralberry for summer! It is a gorgeous color and I have found myself reaching for that lipstick more than Gentlemen Prefer Pink (which I bought not only for the bubblegum pink color, but also for the name!).
What are your thoughts on lipstick versus lip gloss? What do you prefer to wear, and what are some of your favorite brands for both lip gloss and lipstick?
