Ruffle My Feathers

I have mentioned feather hair extensions here and here, but because it is becoming such a big hair trend, I feel I should write a post about it. I have noticed many celebrities rocking the feathers, both on the red carpet and in TV shows, such as Pretty Little Liars. At first, I wasn't a fan, but the more I see it, I more I am warming up to the idea. I might even give it a try. I am going on vacation in a few weeks, I think that would be the prefect opportunity to give the feather trend a whirl. I am a big fan of the natural looking feather extensions. I don't care for the bright colored ones, but that's probably because it's not my style and I don't think I could pull it off. Here are a few of my favorite celebs you are pulling off the feather extension trend with style and ease.

Lucy Hale

Selena Gomez

Victoria Justice

Belle Thorne

My personal favorites are Selena Gomez and Belle Thorne. I like how Selena's extension is soft and sweet and at first glance looks like a highlight. Belle Thorne has gorgeous hair color and I like how she has the extensions under her hair. The cool thing about these feather extensions is that they can be treated just like your real hair. You can wash it, blow dry it, curl it, straighten it, etc. Many hair salons are offering feather extensions, and you may also be able to find them at a kiosk at your mall. There is a kiosk at mall that is selling them for $10 per feather and $6 for each additional feather. They also put the feather in your hair. You can choose where you want it to be, and they just use a tiny clamp to secure it near your scalp. It is easy to put in and take out, and doesn't damage your hair. I like the sound of that!
What do you think of this trend? Have you or would you try it? I'm really considering it, and if I get it done I will be sure to post pictures!

Beach Bites

Beach Bites

Here are some of my favorite treats to bring to the beach. I like that everything is a finger food so you don't need plates or utensils. It is always important to stay hydrated, so bring lots of water or Gatorade. My favorite drink to bring is the orange flavored Gatorade. Try to avoid sugary drinks because they will leave you thirsty and dehydrated. The last thing you need at the beach is to feel bloated, so it's best to eat fruits or veggies. Plus, you will be eating foods that fill you up and are healthy without getting that feeling that you overate. Although, healthy snacks are the way to go, chips are a yummy and easy snack. I like balance out my healthy snacks with a bit of sweet (like mini candy bars or Jolly Ranchers) and salty. I love fruits, but I have a sweet tooth like no one I know, so I always pack a few sweets. If I know I'm going to be at the beach for a long time, I sometimes pack sandwiches or stop at Subway (I love Subway!). I throw everything in a cooler with a few ice packs and I'm good to go!
What snacks would you bring to the beach? What are your favorite fruits and veggies?

Beachin' It

I was finally able to go to the beach! Yesterday, I had the day off from work and the weather was incredible, so my girlfriend and I decided to beach it! I love love love going to the beach! Whenever I hit the sand there are a few essential items I always bring and then some, just in case. My beach bag is always filled to the brim with goodies and must-haves. So, let's take a look!

I have had this beach bag for years. I bought it from Target for about $20. I love that it is made of plastic. It is easy to clean and very sturdy . Although this bag has been ol' faithful for quite a few years now, I have had my eyes on new bag, such as these cute Straw Totes at Target. (Click here and here)

Now let's get into what's in my beach bag!

~ An over sized beach towel. Check out this fun one!
~ A good book. I just started reading Little Pink Slips and so far I like it!
~ An iPod or mp3 player full of your favorite songs.
~ Chapstick with SPF. I love the Nivea Lip Care with a Kiss of Honey & Milk.
~ Sunscreen, sunglasses, and tanning oil. Check out my post on Sun protection.
~ Ibuprofen. Just in case a stubborn headache pops up.
~Eye Drops. Irritated eyes can ruin your whole day.
~ A comb. My hair is easily tangled so I like it bring one to avoid horrible knots.
~ Magazines. That's a given. :)
~ Face cream. You don't want your face to dry out from the sun and sand.

I can't wait to hit the beach again! What do you pack in your beach bag? Look for a post about Beach Snacks! It should be up tomorrow! And don't forget to enter My First Giveaway! Link in the sidebar!

Best Blog Award!

I am floored! After working another long, but great day, followed by going out to a delicious and fun dinner with my girlfriends, I did not think this day could end any better. I was wrong. I came home to discover I was awarded the Best Blog Award by AntiquedGold and Superficial Sanctuary! Thank you so much! You are too kind! I am honored and flattered and shocked! You are both incredible and inspirational bloggers and women! I always look forward to reading your blogs, and am truly honored you have nominated me for this award. Thank you so so so much from the bottom of my heart! If you have not checked out these girls' blogs, you are really missing out, so go see all they have to offer and fall in love with them just as I did.

Now there are rules when one is awarded such a great honor,
1. Link back to the person/people who awarded you (above)
2. Share 7 random facts about yourself.

1. In order to fall asleep I have to have background noise, so I watch Netflix shows like Wizards of Waverly Place until I doze off.
2. I use 79 cent shampoo and conditioner and I love it. VO5 is great. My hair is so healthy and light.
3. Money burns a hole in my pocket. I am sure this is true for many people, but seriously, I have a problem.
4. I cannot sleep with socks on. It drives me crazy.
5. I have two ear piercings, but I rarely ever put earrings in my second holes. Kind of a waste, I should really do something about that.
6. I have a thing for blank cards. Whenever I see a cute set of cards I have to pick them up. I probably have dozens of blank cards. I love sending people mail, but I don't do it very often, but I should start to because who doesn't love getting mail?
7. Sometimes my friends and I color in color books, usually when watching movies. I will always be a child at heart.

Making You Pissy: When people don't text you back, but update Twitter or Facebook.

Black or White: Black
Biggest Fear: Losing my family
Best Feature: My eyes
Everyday Attitude: I am almost always in a great mood. I try to stay positive all the time. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

Make Up Inspired by Selena Gomez

I love Selena Gomez! She is amazing in Wizards of Waverly Place! Her timing is impeccable, and she can truly act. When it comes to singing, she definitely has some pipes. I am in love with her newest song, "Love You Like a Love Song." It has a techno/retro feel to it that is very unique. The video itself is rather strange and random, but that's what I love most about it. Besides her voice, I love all the various scenes with Selena wearing some very fun outfits. But what I noticed most was the fun, bright and bold make up. There are two looks that inspired me, and definitely want to try out one of these days.

My first favorite look has bright eyes and bold lips.

Usually, my rule of thumb is, if you are going to do a bright and bold color, just do it on one feature of your face. But this look is incredible with both the bright purple eyes and fierce red lips. The purple compliments her skin tone beautifully, and the silver in the inner corners of her eyes really makes the look pop! It's also my favorite part of the look. I love red lips. I think it is a classic lip shade that can easily go from sweet to sultry. Her cheeks have a light peach hue to them, which is perfect to off set her eyes and lips.
To replicate this look here are the products I would use:
For the eyes, I would cover my lid and outline the eye with Mac's Vibrant Grape. It's a beautiful deep shade of purple that almost matches the color Selena is wearing perfectly. For the inner eye, Urban Decay Glide-On Eye Pencil in Dime is a gorgeous silver. For the lips, I think Revlon has great lipstick, and the color Certainly Red looks like a dup for what Selena has on. And last but not least, for the cheeks, Rimmel London Lasting Finish Blendable Powder, Blush, & Highlighter in Autumn Catwalk are three gorgeous pinkish nudes.

My second favorite look features a thick wing tip eye, hot pink lips, and light pink cheeks.

I have been playing around with lipstick a lot lately, and my next lipstick adventure is going to be with hot pink shades. This music video has given me the inspiration to play with bright pink lips. For the lips, I would use Milani in Rose Hip. Can you say NEON pink? It's amazing! For the eyeliner, I would have to go where I have never been brave enough to go before... liquid eye liner. I think in order to get this dramatic wing tip, you would have to pull out all the stops and just got for it! I would suggest the Maybelline Line Stiletto Precision Liquid Linear in Blackest Black 501. And for the final touch, I would use MAC Pink Swoon for the blush. It's a very pink blush, but with one or two light swipes, your cheeks will be the perfect hint of pink.

What do you think of these looks? Do you like Selena's new music video? What are your favorite looks from the video?

*Thank you Just Jared, Jr. for the pictures!

Rachel Bilson: Summer Look for Less

I have loved Rachel Bilson ever since Season 1 of The O.C.! She is so adorable and incredibly stylish! I love her laid-back classic, chic style. She is definitely one of my style icons. I saw this picture of her and was instantly inspired. This look would be a perfect look for a summer night. I can see myself wearing this out on a date or just hanging out with my girlfriends. I was able to find similar pieces for a great price!

What do you think of my interpretation? My favorite item is the wedges. They are so cute! What is your favorite piece? I added in the feather extensions for a little extra fun. I'm still not sold on getting them for myself, but my friend tried it out and it looks cute on her. What do you think of feather extensions?

Summer Nights

I love the glorious sunshine and blue skies that summer brings, but I also adore the summer nights just the same. I am sitting on my patio at 10 pm writing this post. I got out of work around 9, flew home, threw on shorts and my favorite t-shirt and made myself comfortable on patio. There is a warm breeze and Dixie Chicks playing in the background. I am so relaxed and happy.
Just being able to enjoy this beautiful weather is such a treat. I can't wait until every night is as warm as this one, and I can watch the sun set as my friends and I get ready to enjoy a wonderful summer night.
{A picture I took of a beautiful sunset my family and I watched one summer.}

Each summer one of the activities I look forward to most is having campfires. I love being able to look around a campfire and see all of my friends and family smiling, happy and seemingly stress free. I also love roasting marshmallow and making s'mores! I have perfected s'more making and even tested some boundaries as far as using candy bars, besides the standard Hersey's milk chocolate. Try substituting the Hersey's milk chocolate bar for a Hersey's Cookie 'n' Creme bar, if you are a white chocolate lover, or if you love peanut butter, Reese's cups are amazing as well!

{A campfire held in honor of a friend's birthday a few years back.}

{Me making some s'mores a few summers ago.}

My other favorite nighttime activity I look forward to during the summer is star gazing. I don't know too much about astrology, but it does interest me and I can name quite a few constellations. When I used to work summer's at a ranch in Wyoming, I loved laying in the grass at night after 12 or 13 hour days and just looking at all the stars. On clear nights, I could see at least two shooting stars. A Wyoming memory I will never forget is seeing the Milky Way for the first time. It was so beautiful and unreal. Even as I stared at all those stars crammed together in a line that went from one end of the sky to the other, I could not believe my eyes. It was truly breathe taking. Although, you cannot see the Milky Way from my house, there are still so many stars and constellations to gaze at from a blanket sprawled out on the lawn.

What is your favorite thing about the summertime? What are some activities you always look forward to this time of year?

That Little Pink Bag

Last Thursday, my girlfriend Molly and I were going to spend the evening at a free outdoor concert, but the weather didn't hold up, so we ventured to the mall so she could get her phone looked at. While we were there, I wandered for a bit, and then I hit the holy grail. Well, at least one of many. :) Victoria's Secret is having their semi-annual sale!!! I looked at a few bra's that were a great deal, but I didn't fall in love with anything so I made my way over to the beauty and fragrance section. I love so many of their fragrances, it's ridiculous. I decided to not purchase any more since I have quite a few I haven't even used much of yet. Then something caught my eye. Baskets full of makeup marked 75% off. I had found the jackpot. Besides, the Beauty Rush lipgloss, I had never tried VS makeup. I thoroughly searched those baskets to make sure not to miss anything. The mark downs were so incredible. I was in bargain heaven. I ended up purchasing 3 Beauty Rush lipsticks, each for $1.75 and a concealer for $4.25!

{Cutie Pie, Clementini, Grape Fruity}
I love the packaging of their lipsticks. I like that the tub is see though so you can easily reach for the color without having to open to top or even read the name. They also all smell delicious and taste yummy too! I love when lip products have a hint of flavor so when you lick your lips you don't get a bad taste in your mouth.

{Grape Fruity, Clementini, Cutie Pie}
Here are some swatches of the lipsticks I picked up. They are so bright and the colors show up beautifully on. Clementini and Grape Fruity are pretty similar in color, but Grape Fruity is a lighter pink with a hint of orange and a lot of sparkle. My favorite so far has been Cutie Pie.

I'm usually very particular about my concealer, but this one is oil-free, which is always a top priority, and it was a great deal, so I figured I would give it a try. It was originally $17, but on sale for only $4.25! Plus, I was running low on my everyday concealer, and was in need of a darker one because my skin gets so tan in the summer. I got this concealer in Deep 10. I have already used it twice and I love the coverage. It is a tad dark for now, but when I put my foundation on it blends right in.

Have you checked out the VS Semi-Annual sale? Are you a fan of their beauty products?

OOTD: In Fields of Green

Last night, my good friend and I went out to dinner at my favorite Summer spot, Taffy's, and afterward we took advantage of the gorgeous weather by going for a walk along the river. It was so peaceful. Families were going for walks and fishing. People were running and taking there dogs for walks. Erin and I just walked around and chatted. I took a few pictures of the lake and then a little light bulb went off. Since I have some one else with me who can also take pictures, I should do a little photo shoot. I had thrown this outfit on earlier in the day before I went out to do a few errands. I was originally going to keep the shirt untucked and just fly out the door, but I decided to see how it would looked tucked in. Needless to say, I loved it and put on my new skinny black belt to tie the outfit together. It's amazing the difference a belt can make. This look is a simple day look with a splash of class. The belt and gladiator sandals definitely give it a little boost from casual to classy.

What I am wearing:
Old Navy sunglasses
Forever 21 Scoop Neck Top
Gap Shorts
Forever 21 Black Skinny Belt
Cole Haan Air Veneta Gladiator Sandals
H&M Messenger Bag

PLL Returns!

Who else is PLL fan? I am so excited for the season 2 to air tonight! I am mildly obsessed with this series! I love all of the actors and characters! Another great part of this show are the clothes! I love how each of the four girls has their own sense of style. I can't even decide which of the girls' style I like the most because I honestly love them all! Some of the pieces they find are so unique, and I love how you can find most items online. I haven seen so many blog posts about pieces people fell in love and then were able to get for themselves. Props to the stylist. What has great job to have!
Who will be tuning in tonight to watch PLL? Who is your favorite character?

New York, I Love You... And Miss You

I love New York City and I am going to move there some day! Back in February, I went to NYC to visit my best friend and I blogged daily about my experiences. I had such a great time. I went so many places, made so many memories, and ate delicious food! Lately, I have been thinking of New York a lot. Random places and things keep popping into my mind that remind me of New York and make me miss it so much. Hopefully, I will be making a road trip there this Summer, but until then I will just reminisce. Here are some things I love and miss about beautiful New York.

Magnolia Bakery
They have the most decadent and delicious cupcakes!

Dreamer's Pizza
I swear to you, this is the best pizza I have ever had! It is New York Style pizza at it's best. Thin and crispy crust, the perfect amount of sauce, loads of cheese, and perfect pepperoni. I think we ordered from Dreamer's at least 3 times during my 6 day stay!

The Stores in Union Square
I love shopping and what better place to do it than NYC. I do not have an H&M where I love (but we are getting one soon!) Union Square is full of great stores like H&M and Nordstrom Rack! I found so many great things at both of those stores!

Source

Grand Central
I love Grand Central Station. There is something truly magical about it. Maybe it is the size, the high ceiling covered in constellations, the millions of people that are constantly coming and going, or maybe it's just me.

There are so many things, places and foods I miss about New York City, but mostly I just miss being there. I miss walking the streets, people watching and seeing something new at every corner. I can't wait to go back and I can't wait til the day when I can call New York City home.

Have you ever been to the Big Apple? What is your favorite thing about the city?

Tribal Queen

After thinking about going to Forever 21 for about two weeks now, I finally decided to take some action yesterday. I was on a mission to find dresses. Forever 21 has so many bright, fun colors and patterns for Summer right now, it was so easy to find dresses, but very difficult not to pick up the beautiful tops as well. But I was very self-controlled. I told my self that if I didn't find at least two or three dresses, then I could look at tops or other items. All in all, I probably tried on about 2o dresses. They were all so cute, but some didn't fit right or didn't compliment me, so I quickly narrowed it down to three. I only ended up purchasing two. The third dress was a maxi, and although it fit well and I loved the pattern and style, it just didn't look right. But the two dresses I did get, I am in love with. They both have a tribal feel to them. The patterns are so unique and fun.

I adore this dress. I love the unique pattern and the color combination. It feels very tribal to me. I would definitely pair this dress with a great pair of gladiator sandals and a gold cuff. Maybe even push the envelope a bit and wear a feather or two in my hair. What do you think of that new trend? I'm undecided, but I will try anything once.

There is a zipper in the front which adds a bit of a modern touch, and it is cinched at the waist that adds shape and flatters my body wonderfully.

Another reason I love this dress is the lace black detail on the back. It adds a subtle sultriness that can take this dress from day to night. During the day I would pair this with a black sweater or blazer and either gladiator sandals or flats. At night I would just take the blazer off and swap my flats for my favorite nude pumps.

{Strapless Patch Print Dress, $19.80}

I love this dress too! Its a mix of bohemian and tribal all in one. To amp up the Tribal feel, I want to find a delicate, gold bib necklace. Because this dress is strapless, a simple bib necklace would be the perfect accessory.

It buttons all the way down the front and the material is so soft and flowy. I wore it to my girlfriend's apartment last night, where we played Catch Phrase and drank margaritas, and everyone loved it.

{UK French Connection, Was $48, On Sale for $24.99}

Unfortunately, this dress does not photograph well on a hanger, but trust me it is gorgeous! I found it at Sears, of all places! I swear that store does not get enough credit. They have tons of great brands. This dress is from UK French Connection and I loved everything from this line. I will definitely be buying more pieces from them. The sweetest woman cashed me out and said it reminded her of something Kate Middleton would wear and she is so right. This dress is so chic and classy, and very Kate Middleton. This dress is going to be great for work, which is the main reason I bought it, but when I start to interview for other jobs and internships, this dress will be perfect!

{Gladiator Sandals, $7.50}

This price is unbeatable. I found this brown gladiators at Forever 21. I recently bought a great pair of black gladiator sandals from Cole Haan, and I almost bought the same pair in a woodbury color as well, but decided to look for a different style to change it up. These are so comfortable and go great with the patch print dress!

What do you think of the tribal inspired prints? Which dress is your favorite? Have you found any great summer pieces at Forever 21 lately?

Soaking Up the Sun

Like many people I know who are from my city, Summer is a season that is loved and anxiously awaited. It snows for far too many months around my parts. For about two weeks now, the weather has been gorgeous. Sunny, hot and just plain beautiful. I love to do any kind of outdoor activity whenever Mother Nature allows. One of my favorite activities for the past few days has been reading on my back patio. I will get so drawn into my book and just sit there for hours reading, only getting up to take an occasional water and food break.
When the weather is exceptionally nice, I love going to the beach or hanging out at a friend's house that has a pool. My best friend is home from school for the Summer, and for the past few days we have been floating for hours in her pool. It's the best of both worlds. I can soak up the sun and enjoy the heat, while dipping my feet over the raft and occasionally splash water on myself to cool down. It is so nice and relaxing. The other day I was so relaxed, I feel asleep for about a half hour on my raft! Safe- probably not, but it was a great little cat nap.
Now, on to the important stuff. I love being in the sun and take advantage of every outdoor opportunity I have, and because of that my skin gets a lot of sun time. Luckily, due to my Italian heritage, my skin can handle the sun, and instead of turning into a lobster, I will get a beautiful tan. At my young age, getting a tan is sort of like a Summer hobby, but I also have to remember that sun exposure can destroy skin cells and will eventually leave my skin looking leathery and wrinkly at a premature age. I do not want that. While, I love my Summer glow, I can get it in a safe and skin friendly way.
Knowing that the weather is only going to get hotter and I would be spending a lot of time outside, I decided to run to Target the other night to stock up on sun screen. My main goal was to pick up sun screen specifically for my face. My nose and cheeks always burn so I wanted to find an oil-free sun screen that would protect me from the harmful sun rays and keep my skin from breaking out. I found a great product that I will probably buy for years to come.
{Target Brand SPF 30 Ultra Suncreen, $4.94 & Aveeno Face SunBlock in SPF 30, $9.85}
For under $5, you can get over 13 oz of sunscreen. That's a great deal. Plus, its water resistant and provides UVA and UVB protection. The Aveeno Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion is a bit pricier, but its Aveeno, so to me, its worth it. It is also water resistant, provides UVA and UVB protection, and is oil-free. And as a added bonus (and because Aveeno is amazing), it contains natural soy and vitamins A, C and E.

{Banana Boat Aloe After Sun Lotion, $4.99 and Jergens Soothing Aloe Relief, $5}
Protecting your skin after you've been in the sun is just as important as protecting it while you're in the sun. I always apply lotion after a long day outside at least twice, if not more. Not only will the products above keep you're skin moist, which will prevent dry skin and itchiness, it will help keep that golden tan or sooth a sunburn. I tend to use the Banana Boat right after coming in from the sun because it is a thick lotion and because that is it's main purpose, to be applied after being in the sun. If you get a bad sunburn, you can put this lotion is the refrigerator that way when you go to apply it, the lotion will be nice and cool and feel great on that suborn sunburn. After I shower and before bed, I like to use Jergens. It's a lighter lotion and good for everyday use. It also unscented but does have a subtle fresh scent, which is great because after I shower or before I hop into bed I don't want to smother a scented lotion all over me, I'd much rather have a fresh, clean smell.

{Sunglasses, Charlotte Russe, $7.50}
Aside from protecting your skin, it is also very important to protect your eyes. Sun exposure can also deteriorate your eyes. Wearing sunglasses will protect that sensitive skin around your eyes that you don't always put sunscreen on due to fear of getting it in your eyes. I have done that before, and boy does it sting! I love wearing sunglasses, this Summer alone I have already bought two pairs and have my eye (No pun intended) on a least two more pairs. They are a great way to protect your eyes from damage and stay stylish at the beach or pool.

What is you're go to sunscreen in the Summer? Do you have sensitive skin or does it bronze easily like mine?

May Favorites

I can't believe it's June 5th already! Yesterday, to kick off the 1st of June, my two friends and I were planning on going to the beach, but it was so windy that we opted for lunch at our favorite Summer spot instead-Taffy's! They have the best milkshakes ever! You can choose from over 100 flavors! Taffy's also has the best hotdogs, hamburgers, french fries and every other delicious, fattening, and greasy Summer food you can think of!
Seeing that May is over, monthly favorite posts are popping up everywhere. They are one of my favorite blogs/videos to read and watch, so I decided I would start to post my own monthly favorites.
So, without further ado, my May Favorites...

{Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Now Sheer Sexy Mist, $25}
I love this scent! I discovered the Very Sexy Now back in December, and I loved it but I didn't end up buying it. Then for my birthday someone gave me a VS gift card and I new exactly how I would be spending it. It has a very fruity and flowery smell. Perfect for summer. I loved it so much I even bought a mini bottle to have in my purse. (I tried to get creative with the pictures this time, clearly I need to work on looking at the camera and not myself.)

{Urban Decay Primer Potion, $18}
I have had this Primer Potion for a while now, and when I first got it I was using it all the time, and then for some reason I just stopped and it made its way further to the bottom of my makeup bin. I found it a few weeks ago when I was organizing, and I have been using almost everyday. I love this product and will definitely be purchasing another one when I run out. It not only holds eyeshadow for an entire day, but it also enhances the color and makes any eyeshadow so much more pigmented.

{Bath & Body Works Princess in Training lip gloss, $8}
I love the color of this gloss. It's a beautiful, sparkly coral color. I gives my lips a tint of color and lots of shine. Plus, the name is adorable. It smells like sherbet and tastes like it too!

{Books}
I have been reading a lot lately and I love it. I used to read all the time, but when school starts back up I never have time to read leisurely. This Summer I want to read as much as possible. So far I have finished two books, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. I loved both of the books! Water For Elephants was incredible, and Something Borrowed was a real page-turned. I couldn't put either one down and looked forward to reading them at the end of the day. I have already started on my third book and so far I really like it.

{Mary Kay TimeWise Night Solution, $30}
I have also had this product for some time, but recently started using again. I apply two squirts to my face each night before I go to bed. I leave it on my nightstand so I remember. I love how my skin looks in the morning when I wake up. My pores are small and my skin looks refreshed and bright. It is full of vitamins and antioxidants. I love this product! I know the price is rather steep, but I definitely recommend using any type of night serum to help your skin rejuvenate while you sleep.

So, there you have it, my May Favorites! Have you tried any of these products? What are your May Favorites? Let me know if you do monthly favorites blogs or posts, I would love to read or watch them!
