Enamored With Elmwood

The other day, three of my girlfriends and I went out to lunch at Olive Garden for the endless soup, salad and breadsticks lunch special. It was delicious as always and we had a great time! I laughed so hard and so many times it was my workout for the day. After stuffing ourselves to the brim, we headed over to Elmwood to stop at Clutch so Ashley could buy a new ring to replace the one she just lost.

She found the exact ring she was looking for but not in her size. (Don't you just hate when that happens?!) But she got it anyway and is going to tamper with it to make it fit. Clutch is a great store full of accessories . They have hundreds of earrings and necklaces that are displayed on huge board that is framed, which is perfect because each piece of jewelry found in Clutch is a piece of art. And the prices are fantastic! The earrings and rings are all around $10 and the necklaces are about $14. Clutch also has fun purses and clutches (go figure), as well and scarves and hats. Basically, any accessory you might need to complete an outfit or to find a fun, unique gift for that hard to shop for friend, you can find it at Clutch. I don't shop on Elmwood as much as I should, seeing as its not even 5 minutes from my apartment, but I am definitely going to start making appearances there more frequently.

One of my favorite shops on Elmwood is Spoiled Rotten. I made a quick stop in there just to look around at the all bright and fun kitchen and dinning accessories. Each mug and plate has a cute design on it that if purchased, you would never want to hide in a cupboard. They also sell a variety of Buffalo T-shirts, such as the I Heart Buffalo Hockey, I Heart Buffalo Football, etc. and other little Buffalo inspired knickknacks.

After leaving Spoiled Rotten, we were going to head back to the car when we walked by Penzeys Spices and decided on a whim to take a look inside. I always thought it would be a neat place to check out, but I had never taken the time to stop in. I immediately feel in love with the rustic cabin like feel and the beautiful wood shelves. The whole store was clean and so organized you could easily find what you are looking for (even as a first timer) and every spice comes in various sizes in glass containers. I think I smelled every spice in the store, and each one was so rich and delicious. I had no idea there was more than one type of cinnamon and that each one would smell so different. I ended up buying a little jar of China Cinnamon. It is on the spicier side, but it is my new favorite kind of cinnamon and I can't wait to bake something with it.

I think I lapped around the store at least 3 times and smelled everything twice before finally making it up to the register. I ended up buying the China Cinnamon and Hot Cocoa with a Hint of Mint, and decided whenever I need a spice, I am going to Penzeys! Out of all the places we went to on Elmwood that day, I would have to say Penzeys was my favorite. Probably because it was a new discovery and every part of the shop smelled delectable. I cannot wait until I find a new recipe to try out that requires a stop at Penzeys. Heck, maybe I'll just go and stock up on the most common spices just the have then around my kitchen. Plus, the glass jars would be a cute decoration, as well as a necessity!

Unfortunately, I did not bring my camera with my that day. I need to start remembering to bring it with me everywhere I go! So, I got these photos from here, here, and here.

Things I'm Lusting For

Every so often I will come across something that I just have to have. I will see it on someone else, in a store or in a magazine and I fall in love. This can either be a great thing or a curse. It's a great thing because I know it will be a perfect asset to my wardrobe, and a curve when I cannot find it anywhere. Here are some things I have been lusting for lately.

A Structured Bag.
I have seen this style bag a few times in the past week or so and at first I thought it was too boxy. But then I stumbled across a bag that was structured, but not too sharp. A Chanel bag is a perfect example of the size and style I would like to find. (I would buy this exact bag, if only I could afford it. Someday.) I would love it in a nude or very pale pink or, of course, black.
A Flapper Hat.
I saw the cutest outfit that was polished off with a fun leopard print flapper hat. It was a perfect addition to the ensemble. I don't know if I could pull it off. I don't often wear hats, but I have been trying to add them into the mix. My favorite style hat is the floppy beret. I have three, but I have such a hard time getting them to stay on my head. So, something like a flapper hat would be perfect if it suits me because I wouldn't have to worry about it falling off. I found this one on the Forever 21 website for only $14.80, and I want to purchase it but I would must rather go into the store and see if they carry it to save on shipping and handling. Plus, I have this problem where I have to try things on before I buy them. So lucky for me and my wallet, I rarely shop online.

A Red Lipstick.
A few weeks ago, my girlfriend and I went out for drinks and got a little dressed up just because. We were getting ready at her place and while I was waiting for her to finish up I was looking through her make up and found this bright red lipstick and the limited edition MAC Lady Gaga lipstick. I had been wanting to try out a deep red lip for sometime and she told me to try hers out. It was my first time ever trying MAC and I was hesitant to try a lipstick. I've always been more a lip gloss girl. I find lipsticks to be chalky and dry. I was shocked at how creamy and moisturized my lips felt! I was sold. I will definitely be going to the MAC counter at my local Macy's. Normally, I would never spend $15 on a lipstick, but I am so in love with this product I will only ever buy my lipstick from MAC.
A Nude Lip Gloss.
Another makeup trend I have been wanting to try out is the nude lip. Whenever I get ready I rarely ever put lipgloss on because I feel like it's too much, but that is probably because I don't have the right color. A nude lip would not make me look overdone and add a hint of color and shine. This Revlon lipgloss in Nude Lustre 040 looks a bit dark here, but when I saw it in an ad, it looked perfect. I'm thinking of going to my local Ulta today and picking one up!

My Latest Obsession: Nail Polish

I have been on a nail polish craze! Almost every time I go shopping I pick up a new polish.. or three! And it gets better! Each bottle of polish was under $3! My secret- Forever 21. Not only does Forever have trendy and affordable clothes, they also have a great beauty selection! I always stop and check out all the fun nail polish colors before I check out. You may have to dig, but if you have the patience, you can find a great color for a fabulous price. The nail polish is thick and creamy and, in my opinion, just as good as a $9 bottle of O.P.I.

{Taupe It Off. Forever 21, $2.80}
{Glamorous Glitter. Forever 21, $2.80}
{Disco Ball. Forever 21, $2.80}

I have been seeing a lot of glitter polish lately, and to be honest, I wasn't a fan at first until I saw my cousin wearing a great multicolored glitter polish at Christmas dinner, and I knew I had to try it out. Right now I am wearing Taupe It Off with Glamorous Glitter on top. The taupe color is gorgeous and could most definitely be worn on its own, but I have been loving the glitter polish lately and was in the mood a fun, girlie nail. Last week, for New Years I get extra glittery and wore the Disco Ball polish AND the Glamorous Glitter! It was so fun! Plus, it was New Years- it's the one day you can never overdo the sparkly. Another recent polish purchase (not pictured) is a great gray I picked up at Claire's. I know, I was shocked too! I have also already worn that, and it too was a great buy! And was only $4.50!
What polish colors have you been loving lately? And what colors are you dying to try out?

Keeping Things the Same

So there has been a slight change in plans. I decided to continue to write fashion posts on this blog. At first, I really liked the idea of having one blog for personal posts and another blog for fashion related posts. But the more and more I thought about that idea, the less and less I liked it. I started to think about how some posts could be a combination of personal and fashion and that would just make things confusing. Plus, this is my very first blog, and while I would like to head in a new direction with my blog posts, I would feel like I was abandoning my baby if I were to create a new and separate blog. Lately, my passion for fashion has greatly outweighting anything else I want to focus on right now, but no matter what I write about, I would like everything in one place. Many of the blogs I follow have a great balance of personal and fashion blogs and being able to read about a variety of things on one blog is fun and refreshing. So, weather you are more of a fan of my personal posts or the fashion posts, they can all be found here!

How To: Make Your Own Bib Necklace

As promised, here are the directions on how to make your very own bib necklace!

What you"ll need:
~ Felt, any color of your choice
~Gems with holes so you can sew them on the felt, any colors you choose
~ A little sewing kit
~ Glue
~ Scissors
~ Ribbon
~ A piece of paper to trace out your template

The first step is to draw your template for the necklace. I just chose a simple design that was a pretty good size about 6in x 4in) so I could cover it with gems! In order to cut the felt and have the template stay in place, use as many pins as needed and poke them through the felt and paper template.

Once you have cut out the "bib" of your necklace, you may have to go back and smooth out any rough edges using your scissors.

Once the felt piece is just the way you want it, lay out the gems into a design you like. Once you have figured out a pattern, glue the gems down and let it dry for about a half hour before you begin sewing down the gems for extra security.

When you finish sewing the gems, which will undoubtedly be the longest and possibly the most frustrating part, you are almost done! The final step in completing you necklace is to sew on the ribbon to tie to necklace around your neck. I used a thing black velvet ribbon.

I hope you found this "How To" helpful! If you have any questions please leave a comment below and if you make your own bib necklace, I would love to see your design!

Things I'm Loving Right Now

I am a bargain shopper like no other! I can find deals everywhere and anywhere, and there is nothing I love more than finding that perfect shirt and then discovering its on sale! After Christmas, I took my gift cards and money and hit the malls! Yes, malls. Plural. I went to a different mall each day last week. Since it was after Christmas, all the stores where having incredible sales! I was in heaven! Here are some things I picked up and have worn multiple times in the past week because I love then so much!

{Elephant earrings. Charlotte Russe, $6.}
I adore these earrings. There were 3 pairs on earrings total, the gold ones shown above, silver elephants, and plain gold studs. I have worn this pair and the silver ones for the past week, switching between the colors based on my outfit. Great Purchase.But, it gets better, CH always offers a 2 for $8 deal on bracelets and earrings, so I really only paid 4 dollars for the elephant pack and got another pack of earrings that came with 8 pairs of earring, which included little gold bow studs.

{Black cardigan. Old Navy, $15.}
I have been looking for a simply, affordable cardigan that I could just throw over any outfit to keep warm and complete the look. I love that this cardy is loose especially in the front and doesn't have buttons. I also really like the length. I have worn leggings and a cute tank around my house with this over it and it is long enough that I would feel comfortable wearing that outfit out in public. I am funny when it comes to leggings. I wold never wear them as pants, but with a long enough top I would definitely be comfortable, and this cardigan is perfect for that. The weather has been so nice lately (and by nice I mean 40 degrees and no snow) that I have been able to wear just this. Last night, I paired this with the lace top (below) and it looked great!

{Relaxed lace top. Forever 21, $11.80}
I was looking at Forever's website before I went to the mall the other day and this top was under the Fabulous Finds tab and I had to have it! I have been searching for a dark, loose lace top for weeks! Every lace top I try on is very form fitting and usually has long sleeves. I love that this top has short sleeves, and more importantly, is slouchy. And it was the last one in the whole store! It was fate!

{Jeweled bib necklace. Homemade, $12}
Yes, folks. This was hand made by moi! I have always wanted a bib necklace, but I could never find one that I really liked as far as color, design, and most importantly price, go. I decided for New Years I was going to wear a loose fitting, but flattering, black top that is cinched on the side with my favorite skinny jeans and boots, and I wanted a great piece of jewelry to be the centerpiece of the outfit. I looked at all my favorite, plus some, and couldn't find something I liked, so I decided to make my own necklace. It was time consuming, but I love doing crafts so I enjoyed myself. I will be putting up a tutorial on how to make your own bib necklace very soon, and might even make another one tomorrow! My girlfriend wants to have an arts and crafts day tomorrow because she was so impressed by my handy work.

{Black boots. Wet Seal, $30.}
I have been searching for a pair of dressier black boots since last year. Every time I come across a possible candidate, I find a flaw. I am very picky when it comes to certain things, one of them being shoes. But I saw these, tried then on, and feel in love. I liked them so much, I even paid full price. But, how can I complain!? Thirty dollars for a great pair of boots is a steal!

{Navy blue Convertible bag. Stone Mountain, Christmas gift.}
I received this bag as a Christmas gift from my dad. I had no idea I was going to get it, but I loved it the moment I saw it and have used it ever since Christmas. It's the perfect size and although I personally would not have picked navy blue for myself, I love the color. It looks great with jeans! A fun aspect of this bag is that the strap is adjustable, so it can become a hobo or a shoulder bag in just seconds! Thanks Dad!

{Marc Jacobs zip around wallet. Christmas present.}
Ever since I started working at Cole Haan, I have had my eye on a zip around wallet, but I could never justify paying $54 for it, even with my employee discount. This was mostly because I was not in love with the wallet. So I never bought it, and then my girlfriend asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told her I had been looking for a wallet. I was so surprised and happy when I opened my presents to see this gorgeous wallet! I switched all my cards and money into it the second I got it! The silver is fun and the hearts are flirty and when I open my purse I can find my wallet right away! I love it! Thanks Ash!

Ringing in the New Year

Last night, I spent my New Year festivities at the girl's house. We played games, laughed and sang. It was fun and relaxing. I was surrounded by all my closet friends (with the exception of a few who were home for the holidays) and I wouldn't have it any other way. New Year's, to many people, is about drinking and partying and going crazy, and while we were drinking and having a great time, I would much rather spend the night hanging out at someone's house, rather then being packed like sardines into a club or standing in the cold watching the ball drop. For me, New Year's is about spending time with those that mean the most to you, and last night, that is exactly what I did and I loved every second of it! Happy New Year! I can't wait to see what 2011 has to offer!
